After months of dry spells, the automotive industry in Malaysia is gradually reopening and this spyshot of the all-new 2021 Land Rover Defender is the start of many.

Thanks to our friends over at Careta, it looks like Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) is gearing up to introduce its rugged SUV in the near future. Adding more credence to that is the fact that this particular Defender was spotted in the Ara Damansara area – right where JLRM’s office is located.

As a quick refresher, Land Rover launched the brand-new Defender back in 2019. Codenamed L663, the all-new Defender is built on Land Rover’s D7x platform. Unlike predecessor models, the all-new Defender gets a lightweight aluminium monocoque platform, allowing it to boast a three times stronger body rigidity than models built on body-on-frame platforms.

It also gets a host of powertrain options, include one turbocharged petrol engine, one petrol-electric hybrid, as well as two turbodiesel units. Considering that the badges on this Defender is taped up, it’s hard to discern what powertrain is fitted.

Land Rover Malaysia’s website has also been updated to reflect the new model. It looks like JLRM is set to introduce the Defender in both the 90 and 110 body styles. The Defender 90 is the 3-door version, while the Defender 110 is the 5-door model.

Just like its stablemates, the all-new Defender can be tailored with a wide range of options, including different wheel designs, storage boxes, and interior upholstery.
