It points to the future of compact sports cars that are both electrified and fun to drive, introducing the Toyota FT-Se Concept, just unveiled at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2023 (JMS 2023).
One of two battery electric vehicle (BEV) concepts unveiled by Toyota (the other being the FT-3e), the FT-Se is envisioned as a high-performance sports BEV model which incorporates the expertise gained in Toyota Gazoo racing programs to create an exhilarating driving machine.
Low, wide and highlighting proportions of a mid-engined sports car - much like the iconic Toyota MR-2 - the FT-Se incorporates a ‘cutting-edge silhouette’ for better stability and reduced aerodynamic drag.
Alongside the FT-Se also features a full-digital cockpit with intuitive controls that is claimed to offer an immersive driving experience.
To aid visibility, the instrument panel is set low, whilst ‘kneepads’ are integrated into the cockpit to protect the body from G-forces during driving.
Toyota has yet to release details about the drivetrain concept or how much power a production version of the FT-SE concept will deliver, only that it shares major components with FT-3e.
Additionally, the FT-Se will also feature and will offer Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates that will create a car that 'grows' with its driver.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
