Previously, we’ve shown you the exterior photos of the upcoming Smart #1 at a media preview by Pro-Net (or Smart Malaysia). Now that the embargo for its interior has been lifted, let us walk you through what’s inside the cabin.

Just to bring everyone up to speed, the Smart #1 (pronounced hashtag one) is the first electric vehicle (EV) from the Geely and Mercedes-Benz joint venture.

Essentially, it’s designed by Mercedes-Benz and underpinned by Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform that also underpins other EVs such as the Lotus Eletre, Zeekr 001, Volvo EX30, and others under the Geely Auto Group.

There will be at least two variants available, both are powered by a 66-kWh battery, providing a WLTP-rated range of up to 440 km.

The Premium variant relies on a rear motor to deliver 272 PS and 343 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h sprint takes 6.7 seconds and top speed is 180 km/h.

Meanwhile, the Brabus variant takes performance to the next level with the addition of a front motor, resulting in an AWD system punching out 428 PS and 543 Nm of torque, capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.9 seconds.

Maximum DC charging rate is rated at 150 kW, though the highlight is that the onboard charger accepts up to 22 kW AC charging.

As for the interior, it is said to feature the essence of 'less is more' from the Bauhaus design with its minimalist T-shaped floating interior pane. Its 'capsule-shaped' design gets a 64-colour Ambient Lighting with 20 lighting levels.

Other features include a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (we were told that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be supported), a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display (HUD), dual-zone automatic climate control, and wireless charging.

There’s also the courtesy seat that moves the driver’s seat backwards for easy ingress/egress, ventilated front seats, 10-way electric adjustment with memory, panoramic roof, and electric sun blind. Audio is piped through a 13-speaker 640-watt Beats sound system.

Practicality wise, the flat-folded rear seat creates a 986-litre storage, while a movable rear bench (with 130 mm of adjustment, allowing for boot space to range between 323 litres to 411 litres) adds flexibility to allow for more legroom, less boot space or vice versa. There’s a 15-litre front trunk or ‘frunk’ that further enhances its practicality.
