In more recent times, it has become known as the ‘SUV fit for a King’, and now it’s made bigger and better than ever. Hyundai Sime Darby Malaysia has just launched the new 2023 Hyundai Palisade Facelift.
A little longer than a year after first being introduced to the Malaysian market, Hyundai’s flagship SUV now receives a raft of styling, equipment and safety updates in its facelift model, along with a marginal increase in prices.
The 2023 Hyundai Palisade Facelift is made available in 4 variants (as before) by local distributor Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), across 2 powertrains options, in either 7- or 8-seater configurations. Prices have gone up approximately RM 40k across all variants respectively:
Starting with the aesthetics, the 2023 Palisade gets a host of design updates that highlight Hyundai’s new ‘Parametric Jewel’ design language.
In place of the pre-facelift’s cascading front grille is a boxy and imposing gloss black front grille which is integrated with the redesigned vertical DRLs and LED indicators. The LED headlights now also reside inwards of the DRLs.
Along the flanks, the Palisade receives freshly designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
Round the back, the Palisade receives a redesigned rear bumper which integrates updated reflectors and a lower skid plate. Further up, the taillights (full LEDs for petrol variants) have also been updated with a new layout.
Courtesy of the redesigned front and rear bumpers, the 2023 Palisade is now 20 mm longer at the front, but 5 mm shorter at the rear.
Changes on the inside are just as comprehensive. The dashboard features a redesigned upper section with slim AC vents that stretch across the fascia, as well as a new multi-spoke steering wheel.
Elsewhere, the 2023 Palisade also receives an updated 12.3-inch infotainment screen (far bigger than the 8.5-inch screen in the pre-facelift) featuring a new user interface, as well as split screen and multi-Bluetooth connection capability. As before, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are offered as standard.
Also complementing an improved driving experience is the new ‘bezel-less’ rear view mirror and larger Head-Up Display screen (HUD) which now measures 2.6 inches (previously 1.8 inches). Upgraded (3 Amp) USB charge ports are also installed in the floor and rear console.
Powertrains are unchanged. The two engines offered for the 2023 Palisade are the 2.2-litre CRDi 4-cylinder turbodiesel which offers 200 PS and 440 Nm and the naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre Lambda II V6 petrol delivering 295 PS and 355 Nm of torque.
Both engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic which drives the front wheels in the 3.8-litre GDI variants, or all four wheels, through a Hyundai HTRAC AWD system in the 2.2-litre turbodiesel variants.
As before, the Palisade is offered with a Drive Mode selector with 4 on-road modes, and a further 3 terrain modes for the AWD-equipped variants.
Another big addition to the 2023 Palisade - justifying the price increase - is the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite, which is now standard on all variants. Previously the 2.2-litre turbodiesel variants were limited to just the Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Rear Cross-traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) features.
With the full Hyundai SmartSense safety suite, all variants now feature:
A new addition to the list is the Multi-Collision Brake System (MCB) which applies the brakes after an initial collision (and airbag deployment) to reduce the chance of subsequent collisions. Additionally, the Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) has now been improved to include Junction Turning detection (FCA-JT).
The 2023 Palisade will be offered in 6 exterior colours, but trades the pre-facelift's Forest Grey hue for the new Gaia Brown Pearl and drops the previously offered Sierra Burgundy colour. The interior colour options are largely unchanged – featuring a choice of Warm Grey, Black or Burgundy Nappa finishes.
The Palisade comes with a standard 2-year/50,000km (whichever comes first) warranty. Optionally, an extended 5-year/300,000km warranty which includes a 3-year free service package, is available at RM11,000 for the petrol variants and RM12,000 for the diesel variants.

Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering.
