The full-electric Peugeot E-408 EV will debut in 2024, following an announcement by the company during its E-Lion Day 2024 press event earlier today.
Building on its global EV lineup that already includes 7 passenger EVs and 3 commercial EVs, the E-408 will be one of two new EVs to come in 2024, with the other being the E-5008 SUV.
Though details are limited for now, we know the E-408 will be based on the STLA Medium platform, the first of four global BEV platforms (though not limited to just EVs) of the larger Stellantis Group. This differs from the ICE and PHEV versions of the Peugeot 408 which are based on the older EMP2 platform.
The STLA medium platform features a 400-volt electric architecture and can house up to a 98 kWh battery which is claimed to offer a best-in-class range of more than 700 km (according to the WLTP standard). Elsewhere, the STLA Medium platform can also integrate a rear motor for front- or all-wheel drive applications.
Depending on the drivetrain, power can range from 217 PS to 387 PS.
Closer to home, the Peugeot 408 has been long rumoured for launch in Malaysia. As announced earlier, the Peugeot Malaysia range will comprise of updated range of both locally assembled (CKD) and fully-imported (CBU) cars, citing models beyond the Peugeot 2008 (RM 134k), 3008 (RM 169k), 5008 (RM 185k) and Landtrek pick-up (RM 119k) currently offered.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
