Save the date, Malaysians! Something or to be precise, several things are expected to be announced by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) on 17-December 2020 at 7.30 pm. Perhaps one of it is the local launch of the 2021 Toyota GR Yaris?
The announcement is to be held in a special live online event via UMWT’s social media on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram as well as via its website.
UMWT has not shared any further details apart from its excitement at what is to be announced during the online event.
“Whatever you’re doing on 17-December 2020 – IT CAN WAIT! We have a surprise to share, and let’s say that there’s a bit of something for everyone to appreciate especially after what has been an incredibly challenging year for Malaysians on all fronts,” said Ravindran K., President of UMWT.
He also added that what will be announced during the online event will be an industry first for Toyota and will be the foundation to usher an exciting 2021.
Since there could be more than one announcement, we could be expecting the Malaysian launch of the 2021 Toyota GR Yaris. The ultimate rally hot hatch for the streets has already garnered quite a number of awards and was shown at the 2020 Thailand International Motor Expo last week.
Granted, this hot hatch won’t be something that can be experienced by many Malaysians with only 100 units expected to arrive here. Each is estimated to start from RM 330k, not exactly affordable either.
The other announcement could be the Toyota Vios GR Sport, a special dressed-up version of the Vios. This won’t feature performance upgrades mind you but it could give the Vios a bit of racing pedigree.
For now, you’ll have to mark your calendars for 17-December 2020 and free up your time at 7.30 pm. Toyota’s announcement could be an earth-shattering one for Malaysian car fans indeed.
