According to a document sighted by WapCar.my, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) will begin sales training for the 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross sometime in May.
This points toward the SUV making its Malaysian launch sometime in the second half of this year.
However, the date is still subject to change - it all still depends on how the Covid-19 situation progresses.
The document also mentions that the Malaysian-spec Corolla Cross will come in two variants, the 1.8G and 1.8V.
Both will be powered by a 1.8-litre, naturally aspirated mill that's shared with the Toyota Corolla Altis, making 139 PS and 172 Nm.
However, there were no mentions of hybrid powertrains just yet, which suggests that hybrid variants may not be available here - at least for this year.
Note that UMWT has a history of staggering launches of additional variants - take for example the Toyota Vios GR Sport that was launched last December.
The Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0) suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are among the featured equipment.
Five colours will be offered: Platinum White, Nebula Blue Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, Graphite Metallic and Metalstream Metallic.
Prices for the TNGA-based Corolla Cross will be close to the Toyota Corolla Altis, and it'll compete with the Honda HR-V and Subaru XV.
For the record, here's how the competitors are priced:
Corolla Cross vs Competitors prices | |
---|---|
Competitor | Price Range |
Honda HR-V | RM 104,000 - RM 118,582 |
Subaru XV | RM 112,138 - RM 133,788 |
Toyota Corolla Cross | TBC |
