If rumours are to be believed, Perodua could be working on yet another SUV, this time a B-segment one that slots above the Perodua Ativa.
Now, let’s not get too hung up about vehicle segmentations, as we’ve dived into that in this article. Plus, this upcoming B-segment SUV is said to have dimensions close to the Proton X50 and recently-launched Honda HR-V, which we will dive into soon.
Codenamed D66B, this new B-segment SUV is said to be developed on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), specifically the DNGA-B derivative of this modular platform. The same DNGA-B platform also underpins the 2022 Perodua Alza, Toyota Veloz, and Toyota Avanza.
Rumours about this new B-SUV started to surface as Perodua invited a selected group of people for a market survey for a yet-to-be named model a couple of months ago. An exact timeline for the debut of the D66B isn't made known, but it should be launching before 2025.
Although the purported B-SUV’s name was not mentioned, the survey did provide the attendees with dimensions, which is said to come in at 4,320 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,685 mm tall. That said, the purported SUV’s wheelbase was not provided.

As such, these dimensions slot the Perodua D66B comfortably between the Ativa and Proton X50.
However, unlike the Ativa or X50, the Perodua D66B may not get a forced-fed engine; instead, the D66B is said to receive the same naturally-aspirated mill as the upcoming D27A Alza and Myvi, a 1.5-litre engine that does 106 PS and 137 Nm.
This engine would likely be mated to Perodua’s Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT) transmission that routes power to the front wheels, mirroring a similar setup as current Perodua models.
Earlier, Perodua trademarked two new names, Traz and Nexis. A couple of months ago, we thought that the new names could be applied to the then-yet-to-be-named D27A Alza, but that wasn’t the case. Could Traz or Nexis be applied to the upcoming D66B B-SUV instead?
