Two months after signing the General Distributorship Agreement, Proton’s subsidiary Pro-Net (Proton New Energy Technology) has launched the official Facebook page for Smart Malaysia.

Pro-Net is now the official distributor of Smart vehicles in Malaysia and Thailand. The newly revamped Smart is now an electric-only small car specialist co-owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz.

Smart Malaysia’s Facebook page’s first post said:

“Greetings and welcome to smart Malaysia's Official Page.

“Our community is an invitation to everyone to connect and have open discussions about the future of electric mobility. You can also get in touch with smart owners in Malaysia and like-minded fans while learning more about our brand.

“We will be posting exclusive content about our products and their features and igniting discussions on topics about the future of urban mobility while delivering exclusive insights from the world of smart.

“So, please like and follow our page, start sharing your stories, opinions and experiences about smart with the community, and stay tuned as we undertake the EV journey together.”

The first product to be launched by Pro-Net is the Smart #1 (pronounced as hashtag one), a sub-compact EV hatchback about the size of a Honda City Hatchback, but with a wheelbase that is closer to a Toyota Corolla Altis.

The 66 kWh battery capacity Smart #1 makes 272 PS and has a 440 km driving range (WLTP test cycle).

It supports up to 22 kW of AC charging, and up to 150 kW for DC.

Prices in China range from CNY 181,600 (~RM 119k) to CNY 245,000 (~RM 161k).

Proton says the Smart #1 will be launched in Malaysia in Q4 2023.
