Mercedes-AMG EA platform undergoes winter testing; hints at future AMG GT 4-door BEV?

Though it may look like a random bit of hooning in the snow, what you’re looking at is the first dedicated BEV platform fully developed by Mercedes‑AMG, currently undergoing extreme winter testing in northern Sweden.

At the same time, as Mercedes put it, the “heavily camouflaged car provides few hints to a future design”.

Given its low-slung and wide proportions, we’ll take an educated guess it’s the production version of the Vision AMG concept car from 2022 - perhaps foretelling a new AMG GT 4-door BEV.

The platform that will underpin it is the AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture); slated to feature in a production vehicle that will debut in 2025, as announced during the Vision AMG's debut.

Right now, the AMG.EA is being put through its paces in the frosty landscape of northern Sweden, marking the start of an extensive and rigorous winter testing phase.

The AMG.EA platform is not just undergoing a few tests; it's at the start of a long journey that will test every component and the vehicle as a whole. The platform will be tested across various locations, on different continents, and in numerous climate zones.

At the heart of the AMG.EA platform is its axial-flux motor technology, also seen on the ultra-efficient Vision EQXX concept car. This technology stands out for its impressive combination of power density, compact size, and lightweight, setting new standards for electric vehicle performance.

The innovative power unit operates in conjunction with a new high-performance high-voltage battery though the range and capacity are yet to be confirmed.
