More expensive than Odyssey, Honda Accord e:HEV launched in Japan with a price equivalent of RM 173k 01

Honda Japan announced prices for the 11th-generation Honda Accord a little more than 6 months after booking orders were opened. Only one hybrid variant is offered with prices starting from JPY 5,449,400 (~RM 173k).

With the discontinuation of the Legend, the Accord is the sole sedan model offered by Honda in Japan. The Civic is only available as a hatchback in the land of the rising sun.

Indeed, the Accord’s suggested retail price is higher than the top variant of the Chinese-built Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey Absolute EX Black Edition starts from JPY 5,164,500 (~RM 164k). Due to its high price and Japanese buyers largely ignoring sedans, Honda Japan targets 200 monthly units for the Accord.

The Japanese-spec Accord is powered by Honda’s e:HEV hybrid system that consists of a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine (147 PS/182 Nm) combined with 2 electric motors (184 PS/335 Nm).

The Accord is also the first Honda model in Japan to be equipped with the newly developed Motion Management System. It supports smooth vehicle behaviour around bends with the aid of sensors located near the front brakes and motors. As a result, the large car would feel more composed with reduced motion sickness for the occupants even at higher speeds.

Besides, the Accord is also available with the Experience Selection Dial that controls various settings including audio source, volume control, and air conditioning. This feature is offered in most markets that sell the 11th-gen Accord including Thailand and Indonesia.

Being the most advanced generation of the Accord, it is also the first Honda model in Japan to be powered by Google as well as the first domestic market model to offer Honda Sensing 360. In total, there are 20 advanced safety features in Honda Sensing 360 which include:

  • Front Cross Traffic Warning – Notifies drivers of vehicles approaching from the left or right when driving at low speeds at intersections
  • Lane Change Collision Mitigation – Avoids colliding with oncoming vehicles from behind when changing lanes through warning and steering assist
  • Active Lane Change Assist – Works alongside ACC and Lane Keep Assist and allows the car to change lanes on its own after indicating

Honda will also be introducing Honda Sensing 360+ to the Accord in 2025 which will include additional features like:

  • Predictive Curve Departure Warning
  • Driver Emergency Support System
  • Advanced In-lane Driving with Hands-off Capability
  • Active Lane Change Recommendation

While some of these sound exciting, unfortunately, the all-new Accord will not make its way to Malaysia. The outgoing tenth-generation is still listed for sale on Honda Malaysia’s website but once stocks run out, we will be forever waving goodbye to the Accord here.
