The all-new (G61) BMW 5 Series Touring has entered production in Dingolfing, Germany, marking a significant milestone for BMW whilst delivering an absolutely beautiful model for many BMW wagon fans.
The G61 Touring also becomes the first model of its kind to offer 4 powertrains for a single model - petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and full electric as well. Note that the (G60) BMW 5 Series sedan is only available as a petrol, PHEV and BEV(i5).
Plant Director Christoph Schrƶder said, āOur BMW 5 Series Touring is especially important for Germany and the European market, and a lot of customers have been waiting for it.ā
āFor us here in Dingolfing, the BMW 5 Series is part of our DNA, and the launch of the new Touring represents the next step in the renewal of our successful model series,ā Schrƶder added.
Since launching the first generation in 1991, Plant Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria has been the sole producer of the BMW 5 Series Touring, with more than 1.2 million units rolling off its production lines over the years.
Like its predecessor, the new BMW 5 Series Touring ā irrespective of the powertrain ā is manufactured flexibly alongside the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 4- and 6 Series models, all on a single production line.
Last year, the BMW 5 Series accounted for about a third of the output from Dingolfing. But with the Touring now available, numbers could rise significantly in 2024.
Alas, the G61 5 Series Touring will likely not make its way to Malaysia, the model is expected to go on sale in Germany and Japan in May 2024, with other markets to follow in June 2024.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
