Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has confirmed that the locally assembled Haval H6 planned for Malaysia will come with a hybrid powertrain. The model will be launched this quarter.

Prices have yet to be confirmed but prices should be competitive as it will be locally assembled. EP Manufacturing’s subsidiary PEPS-JV Melaka (PJVM) has been appointed by GWM Malaysia to carry out the contract manufacturing.

The Haval H6 is sold in Thailand with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged full-hybrid that makes a combined system output of 243 PS / 530 Nm.

When launched, the Haval H6 HEV is likely to be positioned closer to the Toyota Corolla Cross (from RM 143,000) than the larger, upscale Honda CR-V e:HEV RS (from RM 195,900).

For comparison, the Thailand market Haval H6 HEV starts from starts from THB 1,099,000 (~RM 145), very close to the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid’s THB 1,094,000 (~RM 145k).

Thailand also sells a plug-in hybrid with a very large 34 kWh battery, allowing it to have a claimed electric-only driving range of 170 km. It shares the same engine as the regular hybrid, but boosted to make 326 PS / 530 Nm.
