At yesterday’s opening of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Jakarta, Chinese car maker MG hosted its first ever preview of the MG ZS EV battery-electric vehicle in the archipelago.

No prices have been announced yet, as the model has yet to be launched there. MG says the purpose of previewing the MG ZS EV is to raise the profile of the MG brand in Indonesia, and also the introduce MG’s i-Smart connectivity services.

The MG brand was launched in Indonesia in early 2020. Currently, there are only two models in MG Motor Indonesia’s line-up, the MG HS and MG ZS. Both models are imported from Thailand.

Currently, only Thailand sells the MG ZS EV, imported from China.

The Thai-spec MG ZS makes 150 PS and 350 Nm, powered by a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery with a 337 km range (NEDC) on one full charge.

Closer to home, the MG ZS EV have been spotted in Malaysia many times, as is the bigger MG HS. A Berjaya subsidiary company – registered as MG Berjaya Sdn Bhd - was supposed to launch the MG brand in Malaysia but there have been no updates since last year.
