After a video of two cars crashing into each other as they scrambled to allow a VVIP and its entourage to pass went viral, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has spoken up about the need to review and reform the traffic protocols.
Yii expressed that the accident was “unfortunate and unnecessary” and also his disappointment on the lack of concern the VVIP and its aides showed to the accident victims by just driving off.
“We are fortunate that it only involved two cars and no one was seriously hurt. It also happened during non-peak hours or else it may have been worse or caused even more traffic congestion,” he said in a statement.
“In this incident, it’s truly shocking that every single car in the motorcade just drove off, giving the perception that public safety is not a concern.”
The motorcade that the cars were seen allowing to pass allegedly involved the chief minister’s entourage according to Yii.
Yii also added that his proposal was made because of another incident that went viral on social media just recently. The incident involved a VVIP escort forcing an ambulance to make way for them, risking the lives of those in the ambulance.
There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
