PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), Mitsubishi Motors' Indonesian arm, has reached a new milestone with their electric vehicle (EV) business as they've signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with four companies for a pilot feasibility test in using commercial EVs in the country.
The MoU – signed with companies like couriers PT Pos Indonesia and DHL Supply Chain Indonesia, power suppliers PT Haleyora Power, and multi-service platform Gojek – will see the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV used in these companies' daily operations.
Under the MoU terms, said partners will use the kei-sized van for 6 months (Gojek will use theirs longer) in their logistics operations in the Jabodetabek area. The study aims to understand and explore commercial EV applications, by verifying actual usage data including mileage, charging history, and delivery routes.
“The collaboration of this pilot study become the newest milestone in the continuation of Mitsubishi Motors' commitment to accelerate electric vehicle development in Indonesia and moving progress towards contribution of zero emission vehicle with utilizing battery electric vehicles.
As for the Minicab-MiEV study, our highest appreciation to our leading company partners, as well as the Government of Indonesia who positively enthusiastic supports acceleration of electric vehicle utilisation. With this study we hope to explore broader use of Mitsubishi Motors electrical commercial models in Indonesia,” said Naoya Nakamura, President Director PT MMKSI.
Linked to the 16 kWh battery pack is an electric motor that outputs 41 PS and 196 Nm, and tests by Japan's JC08 test mode sees it returning a driving range of 150 km.
Available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) guise only, the four-seater Minicab-MiEV takes about 7 hours to fully charge on regular AC current, and about 35 minutes to charge up to 80% using a 50 kW DC fast charger.
Closer to home, the first EV van to be launched in Malaysia is the CAM EC35. Priced from RM 130k, it offers 80 PS and 200 Nm from its electric motors, and it comes with a 38.7 kWh battery, which is rated for a 268 km range on the WLTP test cycle.
