The government's joruney in digitalisaing the Malaysian Driving Licence (from LMM to e-LMM) and Road Tax (from LKM to e-LKM) in 2023 continues this year as the Transport Ministry has announced the next phase of the MyJPJ application's digitalisaion.
Renewing insurance and road tax via app
Beginning 1-February till 31-December 2024, the public will be able to renew their driving licence and road tax via the MyJPJ app. This will be carried out in phases, with Malaysian private vehicle owners first. To drive adoption of a digital driving licence, there will be an RM5 rebate to those who opt for e-LLM when renewing their driving licence at JPJ counters, the mySIKAP portal, the MyJPJ app, or at Pos Malaysia or MyEG.
Further to that, there'll be new designs to the road tax and licence too. Instead of the sticker and card that's currently employed, the new road tax and licence will just be slips of paper that the vehicle owner can just keep within their vehicle.
Owners can now share the e-LKM of their vehicles with the borrower, such as family members or anyone desired, regardless of duration. This can be done via the MyJPJ app as well, and upon activation, will appear in the borrower's MyJPJ app in their own devices.
