In conjunction with the launch of the Chery Omoda E5, Chery Malaysia has collaborated with EV Connection (EVC) to introduce the Autocharge feature, enabling pre-authorised charging.
As part of this initiative, the first 2,000 buyers of the Omoda E5 will receive 1,000 charging credits through the JomCharge app, which operates as EVC’s digital platform.
So, how does this function? During the launch event for the Omoda E5, Chery Malaysia's Vice President, Lee Wen Hsiang, explained, "For those among the initial 2,000 customers, upon car delivery, alongside the vehicle chassis number, they will receive a unique vehicle ID. This information will be transmitted to EVC. Customers will then need to activate the JomCharge app.
“Once activated, they can conveniently visit designated points equipped with the Autocharge feature. Upon plugging in the charger, the charging point will recognise the vehicle ID and authorise charging based on the available credits in the JomCharge app, in this case, 1,000 charging credits."
He further noted that customers will be required to top up their credits once exhausted. Nevertheless, he noted that JomCharge also offers the option of direct payment via credit or debit cards, eliminating the need to convert into charging credits. This streamlines the process for EV owners and reducing the complexities often associated with public charging.
This system is reminiscent of Tesla's approach, where Tesla owners can seamlessly charge by simply plugging in and utilising their dedicated app.
To recap the recently launched Chery Omoda E5, the EV is fully imported (CBU) from China and is currently available in a single variant. Presently, the range (including the BEV variant) has three offerings priced at:
