Following the launch of its first EV model, the Chery Omoda E5, Chery Malaysia has said that all its dealerships will be equipped with AC chargers whilst selected outlets will feature DC chargers as well, to offer greater convenience to its customers and contribute towards the country’s charging ecosystem.
Speaking at the launch of the Omoda E5, VP of Chery Malaysia Lee Wen Hsiang said, “All our dealership partners will be equipped with AC (chargers) up to 11 kW, and certain locations will be looking to install a DC (charging) facility at key partnership outlets.”
Hsiang further added that at the outset, DC charger facilities will mainly be focussed on the distance from Selangor to Melaka and onwards to Johor.

In addition to the charging facilities, Chery also announced an innovative, app-free “preauthorised charging” method for (the first 2,000) early bird customers. The system works at EVC charging facilities, which can detect the unique ID of a customer's Omoda E5 and activate the charging facility immediately. Credit card payments are accepted.
The initiative by Chery Malaysia to require all its dealers to have AC chargers also further represents a commitment to grow the EV infrastructure in Malaysia. In contrast, BYD does not require its dealers to offer charging facilities despite being the leading EV brand in the country.
To recap, the recently launched Chery Omoda E5 is fully imported (CBU China) and made available in a single variant. Currently, the range offers 3 variants at the following prices:
- Chery Omoda 5 C: RM 108,800
- Chery Omoda 5 H: RM 118,800
- Chery Omoda E5 BEV: RM 146,800
Local assembly (CKD) for the Chery Omoda E5 is expected to commence later on, within Q2 2024.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
