The MG 5 EV wagon you’re looking at is the first EV taxi that will enter service as soon as November this year.
According to Facebook post by Alladin.my, this MG 5 is the first of a fleet of EV taxis operated by MySuri Biz Tech, an online platform provider and operator of the Teksiku ride-hailing app, that will begin deployment in the Klang Valley and Langkawi.
For some background, MySuri Biz Tech first announced the rollout of 1,000 EV taxis as part of a collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) during the International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2022 held in August.
Painted in the same yellow colour reminiscent of New York cabs, the MG 5 EV Station Wagon is a rebadged Roewe Ei5 (as sold in China) featuring a single-motor EV powertrain that discharges 156 PS and 260 Nm.
The MG 5 is offered with two different battery sizes: a 52 kWh and the long-range 61 kWh, which is claimed to offer a driving range of 344 km or 402 km respectively, though, from the pictures alone, we can’t confirm which version it is.
During the initial announcement, MySuri Biz Tech also featured theMG ZSEV SUV and second-generation BYD E6 MPV as other examples of the EV taxis that could be deployed, but the company is still light on specifics for now.
Besides deploying its EV taxi fleet which MySuri Biz Tech will also be implementing its own charging network (in collaboration with TNB) to support its EV fleet. The EV taxis on the other hand will be offered on a lease-to-own basis under the Koperasi JurupanduTeksiku program.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
