At Kia EV Day event in Korea, the company unveiled the production-ready Kia EV5 electric SUV that joins the existing EV lineup, which are the EV6 and EV9. These models are built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

The Kia EV5 adopts the 'Opposites United' design language, emphasising a contrast between sharp, aggressive lines in the fender flares and clean, simple sides.

The low beltline is designed to enhance visibility and maximises the impression of space. Kia’s aim was to create a space inside the EV5 that feels more like a home lounge than a traditional car cabin, specifically catering to the needs and desires of millennial families.

Production of the EV5 will take place in both China and Korea, and the Chinese market will have access to three variants: standard, long-range, and long-range AWD.

The standard model features a 64 kWh battery and a 218 PS motor, with an expected range of 530 km per charge in China's CLTC. The long-range variant comes with an 88 kWh battery and the same motor, aiming for a 720 km range.

The long-range AWD model offers even more power, with a total system output of 313 PS and a 650 km range target.

In Korea, all three EV5 variants are in development, with some variations in battery sizes and combined output. A higher-performance GT model is confirmed for the future.

Kia said that the EV5's battery is designed to function effectively in all seasons and incorporates a heat pump system for consistent performance. It also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions for added versatility.

Inside the EV5, the conjoined screens, each 12.3 inches wide, dominate the dashboard with a separate five-inch climate control display in between. There are physical buttons for the three-zone air conditioning below the centre vents, improving user-friendliness.

The Unified Graphical User Interface (GUI) promises improved usability for EV-specific functions. The connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The EV5 also features the Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) system, allowing the SUV to park itself and providing added convenience.

Kia didn't stop with just the EV5; they also unveiled two concept EVs, the Concept EV3 and Concept EV4. The Concept EV3 is a compact SUV designed with a focus on angular lines and environmentally friendly materials, essentially a mini EV9.

The Concept EV4, on the other hand, reimagines the sedan category with a wide stance and a distinctive design. Inside, Kia says it highlights driver’s experience and offers customisable ambience through Mind Modes.

While Kia hasn't revealed all the powertrain details for the concepts, they tend to reveal information about their new models slowly, so we may learn more about these EVs later on.
