Transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong revealed during a press conference that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) is targeting to vaccinate at least 100,000 public transport drivers in the Klang Valley by the end of August.
According to the transport minister, the ministry is currently satisfied with the increased rate of vaccination that would be made available for workers in the public transportation sector.

MOT hopes that vaccinating workers in the public transportation sector will not only help provide more protection for drivers but also help the country expedite the process of herd immunity.
Last month, MOT declared that they have made a push with the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to categorise workers in the transportation sector, especially drivers in the public transport industry and e-hailing drivers and riders, as frontliners.

“The vaccination for this group will continue to be boosted as they too are among the frontliners who have been working from the beginning of the movement control order.
“We will submit the names of those in the public transportation sector to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) secretariat.

“If there are slots available, they will be given priority,” Wee said at a media conference today after handing over food baskets to residents in the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency.
