Basic information of my car:

2013 Hyundai Elantra 1.8 GLS

Reasons why I bought this car

To replace my previous car after involved in accident & total lost

Car selection process  

• I had a budget of: < RM40000.
• Models that I have considered include: Inspira, Preve, Cerato, Tucson.
• Reasons why I chose this car:

Quite powerful output for 1.8 NU engine

charming exterior -well equipped for 1.8 variant

Great NVH (except tyre roar from wheel fender)

wanna try ‘Kimchi’ car

Positive feedback from my wife after test drive

User experience

• I have already done 20000KM.
• My average fuel consumption is 12km/L.
• Since the purchase, my thoughts about the car are

I like this MD model very well since first time we try this car. This car worth to buy. Driving dynamic not good as Japanese car (Civic FD/Mazda 3 BL) & handling not tough like ‘Lotus Handling’, but it give comfort feel when you drive/be a passenger. Another point are the gadjet in this car. My previously ride is Preve & for comparison, this car a way better gadjet rather than Preve. After nearly half year I use this Elantra, I would said Elantra MD is one of the turning point to be better player from Korean manufacter.

*From side view, headlight & taillight have nearly similar shape

Pros of my car:

• Good combination for 1.8 NU engine + 6AT with tiptronc gb

• fc considered good for 2010 tech. (12km/L)

• fluidic sculpture design make this car body shape looks stunning

• lot features for the car during its era (keyless entry, push start button, dual climate zone AC with digital indicator, cruise control, auto headlamp, auto wiper, electric seat, sunroof)

• Good quality of Nappa leather seat

• Comfort drive

• Good NVH

Cons of my car:

• Bad blind spot (limit visibility due to small window)
• Windshield too leaning & causing dazzled during night driving
• Position of center AC vent lower than other car (AC vent position just like SAGA 2019)
• Driver & front passenger seat oversize & cause back passenger cannot see to windshield clearly
• Comfort ride but too soft in handling
• Resale value for Elantra MD not as poor as old generation Korean but still not par with Japanese/Perodua car in Malaysia

Summary :

THE STORY OF Elantra MD FROM KOREAN PLAYER Hi WAPCAR team. Thanks cause share our Elantra MD 2013 story. Actually, in his cert, official name is Inokom Elantra 1.8 as this car assembled at Inokom Kulim. But, for easy to chat with others, we call him as Hyundai instead of Inokom. I bought this car about half year ago after our previously car total lost.

Our process to find a replacement for our car (Proton Preve) beginning with listed of many other car models. Then, after we shortlisted the candidates, we decided to test every car models including Elantra MD & we decided to choose this one because as per mentioned in why I choose this car column. Our Elantra got his nicknames as ECAH(given by my wife). We love this car eventhough this model underrated in our country.

The engines delivers enough power for daily drive & no issue for cruising. As for ex preve owner, I can said the powertrain for this Elantra & interior material is better than my Preve. But, frankly said, eventhough ride comfort better than Preve, the handling of Elantra is no as good as Preve. I still wondering why Hyundai give torsion beam for Elantra MD, but this just small matter comprising to the good factor from this car. In conclusion, I strongly recommended to whom finding used C segment to list this car as your candidates.
