A report by Free Malaysia Today quoting a statistical report done by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) finds that only 69 cases of driving under the influence of drugs/drinks were attributed to fatal road accidents in a 10-year period.

According to a police statistics analysis, crashes involving single automobiles were the most common cause of fatalities.
During that time, single-vehicle accidents claimed the lives of 19,570 people, according to the police.
A single-vehicle accident is one in which only one automobile, truck, motorbike, or other form of motor vehicle is involved. The police report, however, did not include a breakdown of the types of automobiles involved.

The research also revealed that careless driving when departing or approaching a crossroads was the second-most common cause, accounting for 6,590 cases.
Overtaking (6,560) crashes owing to not spotting a head-on obstruction such as a vehicle, object, or animal (6,336), U-turns (2,570), driving against the flow of traffic (1,731), beating traffic lights (1,398), and falling asleep at the wheel (1,398), according to the police (1,305) were among other causes of accidents, said the police.
Pedestrian irresponsibility was blamed for 1,990 fatal accidents within the same time period.
