So on top of the TopContact LED chips that provides better heat extraction, it has AirBoost technology which is a fan-based cooling system that spins up to 8,000 rpm.

For peace of mind, it is covered by a 5-year warranty. The Philips Ultinon Pro9000 is lab-tested with a claimed lifetime of over 5000 hours. Its durability is also backed by the IP65 certification for dust and water resistance.

As for the light beam performance, Philips claims up to 250% brighter light compared to halogens for enhanced visibility, with a cool white colour temperature of up to 5,800 Kelvin. The SafeBeam technology directs light precisely on the road without glaring others, regardless if it’s fitted in projector or reflector headlamps.

It really is that easy. We tried it ourselves on one of our team members’ 2nd-generation Perodua Myvi, and it took less than 5 minutes for the swap.

Here are the steps:

Locate the headlight holder for the main beam. For the Myvi, there’s no cover behind the bulb, so it’s a straightforward job of twisting the bulb counter-clockwise to unlatch. Then detach the connectors.

Fitting in the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LEDs is just a reversal of the process – attach the connectors according to the right orientation (if it’s not, it wouldn’t fit, just like USB ports) and insert the bulb into the headlamp housing, then twist it clockwise to latch securely. Repeat on the other side and you’re good to go.

It’s that simple. There’s really no need to pay someone else to have it fitted. Of course, it varies between different cars and some might not be as straightforward to replace. But if you refer to your owner’s manual, you should be able to do it yourself too.

And now the LEDs are on. Looks pretty good, eh? The cut-off line is sharp so there’s no glare to other driver. The area of hot spot is also larger, with higher light intensity overall.
