Less than a month after bookings were opened in China, Geely has launched the all-new, fourth-generation 2021 Geely Emgrand.
The 2021 Geely Emgrand is priced from CNY 69,900 (~RM 45k) for the base five-speed manual variant, topping out at CNY 88,900 (~RM 58k) for the range-topping variant. These prices are considerably cheaper than the estimated prices from a month ago.

In terms of pricing, the all-new Geely Emgrand is positioned similarly to a B-segment Toyota Vios (CNY 73,800 to CNY 94,800). However, its dimensions are actually closer to C-segment rivals like the Honda Civic (CNY 119,900 to CNY 169,900) and Toyota Corolla (CNY 109,800 to CNY 159,800).

Being one of Geely’s most affordable models, there are no turbocharged engines on offer. Instead, all variants of the all-new Geely Emgrand are powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that outputs 114 PS and 147 Nm. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual and CVT-type automatic.
Design-wise, the all-new Geely Emgrand adopts Geely’s latest design language, featuring Geely’s signature front grille with vertical slats, while the sides of the new Emgrand is clean and simple with a strong character line flowing from the front to the rear, giving the Emgrand a clean three-box sedan look.
Moving towards the rear-end, both tail lights are connected via a trim piece with the Geely branding emblazoned across. The rear bumper also gets a faux rear diffuser.
Stepping inside, there is a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch floating-style infotainment display – the latter running on Geely’s GKUI software. Upper variants of the Emgrand add a built-in dashcam and remote trunk release.

Editor’s comment:
Although a report claimed that Proton could be developing a brand-new sedan based on this Geely Emgrand, that is unlikely as our sources told us that there are no plans for a new Proton sedan, apart from facelifted models like the new Proton Persona. This is due to the fact that sedans are a diminishing market segment.

Instead, Proton will be allocating resources on SUVs. The next launch from Proton is widely believed to be the Proton X90 – a Geely Haoyue-based seven-seater SUV. The model was spotted on Malaysian roads a few months ago.
