TC Subaru Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Subaru vehicles in Malaysia, introduces its new Subaru Connex telematics system. From 10-September-2021 onwards, the system will be offered on both the Subaru XV and Subaru Forester as an option for RM 1,900.
The Subaru Connex telematics system consists of two parts, an onboard system as well as a mobile app. The onboard system will allow easy access to a dedicated 24/7 call centre to easily request for assistance when needed.
Enhanced Roadside Assistance
The main feature of Subaru Connex is the bCall button (stands for breakdown call). The function will allow owners to easily connect to Subaru’s Roadside Assist via the onboard system in the event of a breakdown, tyre puncture, or even if the car is caught in a flash flood.
Subaru’s Roadside Assist will then send the necessary help to the vehicle’s location.

Automatic Accident Alert & Response
If an accident happens, vehicles equipped with Subaru Connex will provide information such as the location of the vehicle, the severity of the impact, and crash speed to the call centre.
The system will register an impact force as low as 2G and send the necessary information to the call centre.
When the call centre receives information that a car might have been involved in an accident, the centre will automatically connect to the onboard system to immediately speak to the driver and occupants in the Subaru to find out if they are well or require medical and/or roadside assistance.

If assistance is required, the call centre will then connect with MERS 999 and provide the car’s location so help may be dispatched.
However, if there is no reply from the driver or occupants via the in-car voice box and the on-board system measures a high severity impact, the call centre will immediately call MERS 999 to request for an ambulance.
Enhanced Emergency Assistance
If ever there is a need for medical help, the Subaru Connex system has an SOS service where owners can request for medical attention via the onboard system to the call centre. The call centre will then request for medical assistance to be sent to the car’s location.
Subaru emphasised that users can also make use of the SOS service if they ever witness an accident or come across a situation where someone needs medical assistance.
VIP Assist package
Customers who opt for the Subaru Connex system will also be offered a VIP Assist package. The package includes:
- Unlimited towing to a preferred authorised Subaru workshop, in case of flood, breakdown or accident.
- On-site repair service, up to RM 300 (labour charge only) per incident
- Transport reimbursement in case of an accident repair, up to RM2,000* (when serviced at authorised Subaru workshop)
Additional Security Features
Smart Alarm – Upon setting up the alarm, the owner will be notified (via the Subaru Connex app and the registered email) if their Subaru’s ignition has been switched on or if their vehicle is being towed.
Car Status – For the convenience of the owner, he/she will be able to check the Subaru’s battery voltage, device battery voltage, ignition On or Off status, driving history or last parked location.
Pro-active Battery Status Management – Even in situations when the car has not been driven for a while, the battery’s health is monitored 24/7 and the owner will be notified if the battery’s voltage runs low (via the Subaru Connex app as well as registered email) anytime and anywhere.

Convenience
Service Maintenance Reminder – Setting and turning on this feature would remind the owner when the Subaru is due for servicing.
Driving Score – To encourage safer and more efficient driving practices, the app provides a profiling score for each trip that the Subaru makes.
Trip Review – This allows for quick checks on previous trips and informs the owner where the car has been. This is useful information for the owner, if the Subaru has been loaned to family members and friends or fleet customers.
Automatic Vehicle Location – In cases when the owner has trouble remembering where they parked their Subaru, Subaru Connex will be able to assist them in locating their last parked location.
Speed Alert – When the speed limit set up has been exceeded, the owner will receive notifications via a push notification on the mobile app and the registered email. This may be useful in instances when the Subaru has been loaned out to family members and friends or fleet customers.
Stolen Vehicle Recovery – If the Subaru has been stolen, owners can contact the call centre via the mobile app. Upon verification, the call centre will activate the ‘Stolen Vehicle Recovery’ process and liaise with the police for vehicle recovery.
Get connected via Mobile App
Customers may download the Subaru Connex mobile app available on both Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store to receive notifications and reports from the device.
If existing Subaru XV and Subaru Forester owners are interested in the system, they can purchase and install this device at all authorised Subaru Service Centres nationwide.
