At the launch of the Tesla brand in Malaysia, the company announced its roadmap for expansion in the country. This move comes in response to the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Global Leaders initiative introduced by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
Here are the key highlights of Tesla's venture into Malaysia:
Vehicle Importation
Tesla said that it will introduce its range of EVs to Malaysian consumers, including the Model 3 and Model Y. With an eye on catering to diverse needs and preferences, the company plans to bring in more models in the future. Malaysians can now place orders for the Model Y through Tesla's official website, with a starting price of RM 199,000.

Supercharger Network
Tesla will invest in establishing fast-charging and regular-charging stations across strategic locations in Malaysia. This initiative aims to provide a seamless and convenient charging experience to promote widespread electric vehicle adoption in the country.
Head Office and Service Centre
Tesla is set to establish its advanced head office and service center in Cyberjaya, Selangor. This hub will be responsible for all corporate operations, marketing, training, customer support, and vehicle services. Equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic tools and staffed by highly trained Tesla technicians, the center promises prompt and reliable after-sales services.
Interactive Experience Centres
Tesla also plans to set up experience centers in key metropolitan areas across Malaysia. These centers will provide potential buyers with an opportunity to explore and experience the latest EV models firsthand. Knowledgeable Tesla sales representatives will be on hand to offer personalized assistance and showcase the benefits of electric mobility.

The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, expressed excitement about Tesla's decision to expand into the Malaysian market. He highlighted how Tesla's commitment to sustainable mobility aligns with Malaysia's vision for a greener future and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030's push for net zero.
He also emphasised that Tesla's presence in the country will create exciting job opportunities and enhance the participation of local companies in the global Tesla ecosystem, contributing to Malaysia's economic growth.
MIDA Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman, applauded Tesla's investment in Malaysia, acknowledging the country's attractiveness as an investment hub in the region. He believes that Tesla's involvement will significantly contribute to Malaysia's sustainable development journey through electric mobility.
Tesla's Regional Director, Ms. Isabel Fan, expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the expansion into Malaysia. She stated that Tesla is committed to delivering a seamless ownership experience, driving a zero-emission and greener future for the country.
Tesla's dedication to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction is set to play a crucial role in helping the nation achieve its environmental goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. This commitment aligns with Malaysia's pledge to reduce carbon emissions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030.
