Thailand will soon gain not just one upcoming Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker in 2024 but two. Besides Geely’s Zeekr, Xpeng will also be distributed by a subsidiary of Thailand’s national oil conglomerate, PTT.
PTT is the Thai equivalent of Petronas while its subsidiary Arun Plus Ltd focuses on electric-powered mobility in the Kingdom. According to a report by The Nation, Arun Plus has established X Mobility (Thailand) Ltd as the authorized distributor of Xpeng EVs in Thailand.
The Thai daily reported that the registration of the company was completed on 6 March and has a registered capital of THB 10 million (RM 1.31 million). Arun Plus' social media has recently posted job listings for X Mobility.
Arun Plus also established Ze Mobility Plus Ltd as the authorized dealer of Zeekr EVs in the Kingdom. Zeekr has also reportedly signed deals with distributors in Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines with plans for launch in those markets in Q2 2024.
Sources told The Nation that both Zeekr and Xpeng are expected to be launched at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) which will be held from 25 March to 7 April.
Xpeng has plans to enter right-hand drive (RHD) markets with Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia mentioned by its CEO, He Xiaopeng in an interview with the South China Morning Post. With Thailand making an official announcement of its distributor, could the Kingdom be the debut RHD market for the real Chinese Tesla?
