Geely's premium battery electric vehicle (BEV) maker, Zeekr, will be entering the Thailand market and subsequently beginning sales there in the first half of this year, reports Reuters.
Citing a company spokesperson, the report also states that the company has inked deals with local distributors in Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines, with plans to begin sales in those markets in the second quarter of this year.
This comes after the company announced late last year that it will enter the Singaporean market by the mid-2024.
Meanwhile, Nation Thailand reports that a PTT subsdiary company, Arun Plus, has been approved to establish Ze Mobility Plus Limited as the authorised dealer of Zeekr BEVs there.
State-owned PTT is best thought of as Thailand's Petronas, and they are they largest corporation by market capitalisation in the country. Besides oil and gas, the company has also invested in 'future energies', with a subsidiary partnering with a battery maker to produce and export BEV batteries.
Though no mention of models were made just yet, it's likely that the first couple of models are the Zeekr X and Zeekr 009, given that right-hand drive (RHD) variants of these models have been previously announced.
The waiting game might not be for long anyway, as it is reported that Zeekr will be announcing their first models at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show, to be held from 25-March to 7-April in Nonthaburi.
