The Honda Civic FC is reborn in China as the Lingxi L - Powered by BYD's LFP battery

This is the Lingxi L, the first model from the Lingxi brand, borne out of the Honda-Dongfeng joint venture in China.

Following the formal introduction of the brand and the Lingxi L concept last year, we now have the first images and further information about the model that is aimed at a younger EV buyer base in China, courtesy of filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width and 1,503 mm in height with a 2,731 mm wheelbase, the Lingxi L is comparable in size to the (FE) Honda Civic. Even the wheelbase of both models are nearly identical, with the Civic measuring 2,735 mm, just 4 mm longer than the Lingxi L's.

During the brand's launch, it was stated that Lingxi models will sit on a new all-electric platform - separate from Honda's e:NS EV models marketed in China. However, the new all-electric platform appears to be modified from the FC generation Honda Civic. The A, B, and C pillars are too similar to be a mere coincidence.

In contrast to the Civic though, the Lingxi L will reportedly house a BYD FinDreams LFP battery pack though details on size, range and charging will only be revealed closer to the launch. The kerb weight is pegged at 1,702 kg. 

It has also been disclosed that the Lingxi L will feature a single electric motor, boasting a power output of up to 218 PS.

Further MIIT filings also indicate the inclusion of radar technology, hinting at the vehicle's advanced driver assistance systems. The vehicle also visibly has cameras in place of the side mirrors. The interior details, however, have yet to be revealed as of now. 

The new Lingxi L electric sedan is slated to debut at the upcoming 2024 Beijing Auto Show in April and launch in the Chinese market soon after.
