During the launch event of the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV earlier today, Volvo Car Malaysia revealed that the Volvo C40 will be launched later this year.

Local assembly (CKD) plans for the Volvo C40 are in the works as well, so we can expect the C40 to be locally-assembled as with all Volvo models currently offered in Malaysia. No further details were revealed apart from that.

As for the Volvo C40, it’s basically a coupe version of the Volvo XC40 – think BMW X3 and X4 – and sits on the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

Powertrain is mirrored to the XC40 Recharge EV, with a pair of electric motors located on the front and rear axles. Combined, total output stands at 408 PS and 660 Nm. Volvo claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.7 seconds.

It also gets the same 78 kWh battery that allows for up to 420 km driving range. Charging via an AC outlet takes between 8 to 72 hours depending on the power output (supports up to 11 kW AC charging) while it takes 40 minutes to charge via a 150 kW DC fast charger.

Volvo recently introduced the single-motor variant of the C40. It comes with a smaller 69 kWh battery and an anticipated range of up to 434 km on a single charge under the WLTP drive cycle.

It remains to be seen if we’ll be getting the single-motor variant, but the dual-motor P8 variant is all but confirmed.
