1. Swede Swede horsepower

One thing that EVs have going for them is insane power and the C40 Recharge didn’t miss that speedboat. Malaysia gets twin-engine variant with an electric motor on each axle for AWD and a 50:50 power split.

The 78kWh lithium-ion battery feeds the dual motors that make 204 PS apiece, equalling to a combined total of 408 PS with 660 Nm of torque for acceleration that would put the USS Enterprise and its warp drive to shame.

That’s a 0-100 kph time of 4.7-second, enough to put sportscars to shame and wheelspin through most of the range.

2. Google Maps carrying a remaining charge estimate

The C40 Recharge’s infotainment runs on the Android Automotive OS with Google services integrated. However, the coolest part of it would be the Google Maps app that integrates the estimated battery percentage remaining once you’ve reached your destination.

Therefore, whenever you input your destination, Google Maps will display the estimated charge left with the C40’s battery once you’ve arrived at you destination. This makes it much more convenient to plan your journey.

3. Cool styling

The C40 Recharge exudes Volvo’s trademark understated styling that still manages to stand out. It might be their first attempt at a coupe-fied crossover but you’d never be able to tell with the seamless blending of a sloping roofline and their distinct minimalist design.

If you see one on the road, you’ll immediately know it’s a Volvo but at the same time, you can tell it’s not your generic boxy XC40 that it’s based on.

4. Vegan-friendly upholstery, zero-leather interior

Volvo’s all about sustainability and the C40 exemplifies that the most thus far. The luxurious interior is constructed out of 71 former PET drinks bottles and uses absolutely no leather at all.

Furthermore, it houses a unique touch in the form of the contoured 3D-printed plastic panel above the glove box. The backlit piece reveals the topography of the designer’s favourite hiking point in Sweden, making for a personable touch to a homely interior.

5. There’s no start/stop button

Yes, you read that right. The most interesting feature in the C40 Recharge is arguably one that it lacks entirely.

Volvo’s attempt at simplifying the interior has extended to deleting the start button and handbrake switch. You simply plonk your bottom down in the driver’s seat and put it in D to drive away or push it into P and lock the doors to “deactivate” it.

Either way, it makes for a unique driving experience that pushes the boundaries of convenience but once you’ve experienced it, you’ll wonder why all EVs haven’t taken a leaf put of this book.
