Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that youths accounted for almost 50 percent of 14,308 road accident deaths between 2019 to 2021.
According to Bernama, Ismail Sabri said road accidents are amongst the main cause of death in the country with an average of 4,769 lives lost each year between 2019 to 2021. The highest number of deaths recorded involved youths.
The Prime Minister stated that the figure is a major challenge for enforcers to reduce the number of accidents involving youths.
“Youths have a bright future and are needed by the nation but they were the most affected group.”
To curb the road accident death rate, Ismail Sabri suggests that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to hold more advocacy and engagement programmes in line with the government’s desire to reduce road accident fatalities by 50 percent by 2030.
Ismail Sabri was speaking at the Malaysian Family Driving Licence Aid Programme (BLKM) at the Bera Rakan Muda Complex in Pahang on Sunday (13-March-2022).
