Why is Tesla failing so badly in the stock market?

Stock prices are ruled by traders and news outlet sentiment. This sentiment is currently not greatly in favor of Tesla, but over the recent days it appears to be changing. Fueling of this negative sentiment is coming from a lot of sources (I will try to list them without judgement whether correct or incorrect): Tesla / Elon Musk by having stated that for 2019 there would be every quarter a profit, and this did not happen for 2019Q1. Over 2019Q1 the loss and low sales quantities fueled worries about demand for Tesla’s globally. Tesla shares are the MOST shorted stock, so there is an interest at a certain group of traders to vent / create / put out of proportion negative news in order to have financial gain from it. Tesla is disrupting the market, and with this the list of “enemies” is big. Conventional automakers are confronted with a rapid growing new competitor, which is influencing their customer base to go electric while they have for (too) long ridiculed electrification and thus not invested in this technology leaving them 4–5 years behind Tesla. The oil companies do not like Tesla as BEVs are taking away their business as no fuel is used in them. Autodealerships see their numbers reducing as Tesla squashes out that layer by going to online sales / direct sales, and on top their incentive for selling electric vehicles so far has been very low as electric vehicles tend to need less maintenance. Tesla recently held a Autonomous Investor Webcast, and some analysts / people had the feeling that this Webcast was done in order to cover up low demand for Tesla vehicles globally. Finally there is a group of people / news outlets who simply hate Elon Musk, and go whatever route to block / spread FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) news / invent negative news / put out of proportion negative news in order to try to make Elon Musk’s companies black. You can identify some of these persons easily on Quora … just look for negative postings on all Tesla / Elon Musk, and read on what they have been answering. Often you see literally copy/paste of answers which do not really answer the question, but it is simply just their to vent their word / point of view. On the news outlet side a very anti-Tesla / Elon Musk colored station is CNBC as an example. Big news corps have big influence. So there are a lot of sources for negative sentiment surrounding Tesla. And as with a lot of information (right / wrong / falsified), when exposed to it a lot the sentiment start to change and some persons will start to develop certain filters and amplifiers to certain news information flows. To be frank, I am not on the negative side regarding Tesla. I own a Tesla Model 3, and really love the vehicle. I have a degree in Automotive Engineering and have spend my whole life in it … from little kid to now. So my conscious part of life has been for more than 45 years exposed to cars and automotive technology. I have worked in vehicle design, vehicle testing, component design, component testing, and repair of cars. And with that I think I can make a decent judgement on what car is very good and what cars are less good. The Tesla Model 3 by far is the best car I have ever driven. Even when comparing it to Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and what more. Is it perfect … no, but for me no car is perfect. But the Tesla Model 3 (LR AWD + Performance) are closest to perfect I have ever experienced. Tesla has still a way to go on elements like delivery quality on export markets as there are inconsistencies there, as well as on after sales service. But that all has to be put into perspective of a young company under the stress of exponential growth. Also on the side of the potential their stock has, I am on the positive side. Technically Tesla is 4–5 years ahead of competition on the e-drivetrain, battery technology, charging infrastructure, infotainment hardware/software/design and autonomous / full self driving technology. They are the only automaker with a deep vertical integration, the only automaker who do deep investments in the visions they pursue, and are expanding/duplicating their production capabilities rapidly on a global scale. With all the fuzz around inconsistent delivery quality and slow after sales service, they are having the highest customer satisfaction. In that environment and with that negative sentiment created in the market place, that means that its product are that much better than competition to make up for those imperfections. So I own a good portion of Tesla stocks, with solid faith that they are going to provide profit over time. So far I managed to earn already a good profit on trading Tesla shares.
