Tough question. Vintage Porsches from the 1960s seem to just keep rising in value. Id look into one of those.
Dodge Viper. Sure you can get an Elise and that looks cool. You can pull a 996 Porsche. Even some Aston Martin's. But you said flash, and even a Lamborghini Aventador competes with the viper for flashiness. The Viper is just in a league of it's own. 8–8.4 liters of N/A 10 cylinder evil. Most flashy cars run of premium. The Corvette runs on bald eagles and is so dime a dozen that I, a devout car guy that gets excited at the sight of a rusty 80’s Celica, barely pay attention when I see one. Italian supercars run on their owners pompous attitudes and have a reputation for being douche trophies. But the Viper, no matter what year though the late 90’s GTS is my favorite, the Viper runs on souls harvested by the devil infused with your enemies blood. If Steven King had been born later he would've written Christine about a Viper. The common perception is what makes a car flashy. A BRZ will get more looks than a Maybach in most instances. If even a car guy saw an Alpine a110 they'd think “oh cool”, but would crap themselves over an Evo 1. Common perception of the Viper is that it's an absolute monster, loud, dangerous, and sexy and that's it. Only the eco-friendly crowd would hate you. If you want people to look at you, without contempt, the viper is your only option. Foreign cars have a bad reputation and that negates the flashiness, no one is impressed that you play around in dirty mouths, filling cavities Mr. Porsche owner. I personally hold none of these opinions of flashiness, but most people think that the car you drive determines who you are. The Viper doesn't really hold such connotations in the minds of those I've met.
The best answer is a slightly used ,Porsche Cayman (S),: If you want to save some money, you could consider a Mazda Miata. It has great torque/handling although it’s lacking in the horsepower department.
Get a Porsche 981! I'm pretty sure they have the highest stares per dollar out there right now, and I think the best engine note under 50k. The Caymans are starting to fall under 50k.
You’re from the US and you want a foreign sports car with performance and lots of features, while being under 50k. For a new car, I would recommend the Audi TT or the Mercedes SLC, as pictured below: If you want to explore the used market, then the openings are plentiful. At this point, you can look for some used Porsches, starting with the Boxter, and going all the way up to a used 911. I’d recommend a Cayman, because of its driving experience and reliability. Enough about the Germans! The brits have the old XK and XKR models from Jaguar, which can be picked up at fairly low prices on the used market. Now that we’re done with Europe, let’s move on to Japan. The famous GTR isn’t available at this price point, but it’s younger brother, the 370Z is. Also from Nissan, you can get the fantastic Skyline GTR. A cheaper option is the Fiat Abarth 124, which is probably the best mini-sports car in the world. These are said to be enormously fun to drive.
A certified used Lexus LS,. You ought to be able to pick a 3 year old version up for $50k or less, with no more than 30k miles. Here's a 2012 with 27k miles that's certified and just under $49k. The reasons are: The LS is the best car Lexus makes,. While Lexus isn't necessarily the innovator that BMW is - or the performance icon that Porsche is - their products are still ,excellent,...and the LS is the flagship. Lexus reliability is world class,. You will struggle to find a brand that manufactures vehicles with greater reliability...,JD Power, and ,Consumer Reports, consistently list Lexus as a top brand. The maintenance is easy,. Toyota builds Lexus products, which means they're easy to maintain. Change the oil. Replace an air or fuel filter every year or two. Drain and refill the transmission fluid every 6 years. EASY. If you buy a Mercedes-Benz or BMW, you will find that they're quite a bit more complicated to maintain than the LS. If there's a catch, it's this: Spending $50k on a personal vehicle merely for luxury features is what I would define as "wasting money." I'd strongly urge anyone thinking about a $50k [insert luxury brand name here] to go look at a loaded family sedan from someone like Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan or even Hyundai/Kia. It's hard to believe how nice a new Camry or Accord can be for a measly $35k. Today's mass market sedans are surprisingly fast and luxurious, cheap to own and maintain, AND they hold their value much better than most "luxury" cars. They're the best deal going in the car business right now.
You can easily buy a nice Jaguar or Porsche for fairly cheap. I don't know what is considered a supercar , but Porsches are one hell of a car. You can get a well kept, new model, used Porsche for under 50k. The Boxter, Panamera, and 911 models are beautiful. As far as Jaguar, they are cheaper. You can get a new model Jaguar for under 40k, and they're nice….. the XK, XF, and F Type models are my favorites.
New, or pre-owned? If you’re willing to consider a late model pre-owned car, you’re options increase dramatically. Did a search on the local Orange County CA Craigslist and came up with these options under $50K: 2017 Corvette, manual trans, 2300 miles, $49K 2011 Maserati GranTurismo, 14K miles, $45.5K 2015 Challenger Hellcat, 13.6K miles, $49K. And then there’s this (although many don’t like the amoeba eyes, values are starting to stabilize): 2004 Porsche 911 Turbo, 48K miles, $48K. Lots of options if you’re interested in looking at a relatively new but pre-owned vehicle.
If you’re looking at a used Porsche 911 there is only one (of the dozens of variants) that you’d really want to have, and can reach for under your stated price limit, it has five letters. T. U. R. B. O. That’s right, any 911 aficionado will tell you that the premier model of any of the half-dozen generations, excluding limited run models and GT cars, is the top-of-the-line Turbo. In fact, if you’re speaking to any Porsche fan and mention “The Turbo” they will think of one, and only one, model - the 911 Turbo. Sorry Macan, Cayenne and 991-model 911 fans, all of which have turbo’ed models, but you know it’s true! Under $50K, you’re looking at just one generation in your price bracket, the first generation of water-cooled Turbos, the much-maligned 996. Here’s a quick review from the famed Dr. Jeremy Clarkson about the 996 model Turbo (and comparison with the same generation’s Carrera 4S, for that matter). Still not convinced? How about this promo video from Porsche regarding the launch of the 996-model 911 Turbo: You’re still here? Well, nearly half a million people have read Doug De Muro’s review of the Porsche 911 Turbo (996) posted to Jalopnik a couple of years back. You’ll find it here: ,Here’s Why The 996 Turbo Is The Best Porsche 911 You Can Buy Hagerty has the 996 model 911 Turbo on it’s list of 9 Hottest Collectible Cars to Buy Now (Dec 2017) ,2018 Bull Market List: The 9 hottest collectible cars right now | Hagerty Articles If you want even more evidence that this it the way to go under $50K, how about the opinion of the Porsche Club of America ,Best Porsche 911 to Buy (LIST FOR 2018) “Ok, if you need us to say what is the sleeper Porsche 911 to buy, this is it. Its a 400 plus hp super-car with all-wheel drive, goes 0-60 in 4 seconds and went brand new for $130k USD. Now 12 years later you can find great examples of this car for under $40k. Talk about a great buy. This car was basically the Porsche 959 sold to the masses as a 911 Turbo in the early 2000’s.” Game. Set. Match.
Supercar isn't a universally defined term. If you are willing to look at brands that are not Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche then you have some great options from Japan and America. The Corvette C5 Z06 is an incredible bargain with relatively cheap parts except for tires which are wide. The performance is still spectacular with 0–60 times under 4 seconds and 11 second quarter mile. A decent example is about $25k and depreciation shouldn't be high. Everything You Need To Know Before Buying a C5 Corvette Z06 Forrest Diddams, suggestion of the Acura NSX is another great choice though it's no longer fast by contemporary standards. It's stunning looking still and has the mid-engine look of Italian supercar with Japanese restraint which is not surprising since Honda hired Pininfarina to design it. If new Ferraris and Lambos are now at least semi-reliable we can thank Honda for setting the bar. How run of the mill 1980s Porsche 911s are more expensive than such a groundbreaking car is absolutely mind boggling. I guess 60 year old dentists gotta live out their dreams but I digress. If you want world class modern performance from a Japanese supercar an early Nissar GT-R is now under $50k. The looks are, ahem, polarizing though 14 boys will fawn over it.
