Where are Subaru cars built?

2/3 of Subaru’s automobile manufacturing is performed in Japan, with four production facilities in Gunma Prefecture: Main Plant (Ota-shi, Gunma), Yajima Plant (Ota-Shi, Gunma), Oizumi engine & transmission plant (Oura-gun, Gunma), and Ota North auto components plant (Ota-Shi, Gunma). The Main plant has the capacity to produce about 213K units per year, and the Yajima plant can produce 431K (FY2017 statistics). Subaru also operates a large North America production facility in Lafayette, Indiana, in the US, with the capacity to produce about 424K units/year, about 40% of Subaru’s total production capacity of 1.07 million. The US capacity nearly doubled in Spring 2017, and is salted to expand slightly again in Spring 2019. About 40–50K vehicles per year are produced by Daihatsu in Japan and badged by Subaru for the domestic (Japan) market, including the Justy compact car and the Chiffon, Stella, and Pleo minicars. In FY2017, Subaru assembled about 9-10K cars in Malaysia for that local market. Distribution in Malaysia is through The Motor Image Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Tan Chong International Limited. A Saitama production facility manufactures general purpose generators, with 334 employees. In addition, Subaru operates three aerospace manufacturing facilities. the Utsunomiya Plant in Tochigi has about 1800 employees, and two small facilities in Handa, Aichi, employ about 320 people.
