What oil is dripping from my 7-day old Suzuki Gixxer 150, and is it a problem?
Looking at the image, looks like it is from the fuel overflow pipe or even the carburetor overflow pipe. Nothing to worry if it is from those to pipes as it is meant to channel the excess fuel to overflow. Suppose it is dripping from the engine drain bolt or the oil cap, then please use the proper sealant before tightening. Most of the local mechanics do not use this and tend to over tighten these screws resulting in damage to the thread in the casing.

Why can't engineers solve the problem of fuel overflow in bikes/motorcycles? Isn't it as easy as limiting the fuel supply for a few seconds while the bike is started?
Fuel injection does this.but if you have carbs, then the needle and seat must be in good condition and the float must be set properly in the float bowl, if it gets stuck, or the needle and seat is worn you will get fuel leaking as it overfill the bowl and comes out the overflow pipe. Other leaks can occur at the vacuum tap, fuel can leak into the pipe and pre ignite.

There's a difference between topping up fuel and overfilling fuel. When you top up, take care that the petrol pump assistant doesn't fill more than rewuired fuel in your bike. If it is filled above the cap opening the fuel will overflow down through the overflow pipe but it won't “leak” fuel.
What are the things I should replace immediately after buying a used motorcycle?
Nothing much immediately. I’d ask for the maintenance history and begin from there, scheduling oil changes and other service tasks as per the owner’s manual. If the bike has been parked for extended periods, I’d do a full inspection and replace parts as needed, focusing on Brake pads and shoes, bowden control cables, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, bulbs, filters and possibly tires. Depending on how the bike has been treated and where the machine has been run and parked, I’d think about additional checks including inspecting all wiring harness connectors for oxidation and wires for hardened insulation, frayed sheaths and possible breaks. Engine coolant change tends to be one oft ignored service task and a full flush of the coolant system would be top of my list too. Coolant hoses need a once over too. Steering ball races / bearings again can be a source of issues if not inspected and lubed / replaced. The exhaust system needs to be checked for corrosion and parts such as a breather oil trap / fuel overflow canister may need cleaning or replacement. Most motorcycle fuel filler openings have an overflow pipe that also channels away rain water. Those hoses tend to get clogged with dust and grime and can allow water to enter the tank specially if the bike is parked in rain for a bit. Make sure you clean out those pipes. Also check for hardened fuel hoses and cracked high pressure fuel injection hoses. Inspect battery connections and have the battery checked with a load test. If you don’t have information on the manufacture / installation date of the battery, it would be prudent to replace the battery immediately. Cold weather will bring out electrical gremlins that are exacerbated by a poor battery. Starter motor carbon brushes may be another point of expensive failure. replacing them will ensure that you get a lot of quick starts out of the starter.

Hello, The pipe which you are talking about is called as “Fuel Overflow Line”. The internal combustion engine needs air and fuel mixture in order to burn through them and produce power. If the Firing chamber is “Flooded” with Fuel instead of proper air to fuel ratio then it is impossible to burn them. The fuel overflow line is given as a fail-safe measure If excess fuel is present this line is used to drain them. Cheers.

Yes, but there will be several faults to allow it. 1 If the petcock is automatic it will not be working properly and is allowing the fuel to get to the carb with the engine off 2 the carb float needle is not sealing properly and is allowing the float bowl to overfill 3 The float bowl overflow pipe is blocked Only then will the carb fill to the point the raw fuel can run down the inlet manifold and sit on the inlet valve
I see two pipes coming out of the carburetor on my Royal Enfield CL 350. One is a short pipe that I assume is for air intake. The other one is a long one going deep down somewhere near the battery. What is that for? What would happen if its other end is also free as the first pipe?
the second pipe must be overflow pipe I assume. If you check pulsars and unicorns, near the centre stand, there are a bunch of pipes. one comes from the carburettor, one from battery, one from petrol tank lid and some other places which are not visible as it is packed. the pipe from the battery might remove extra acids. the pipe from the carburettor might remove the extra fuel while setting. the pipe from the petrol tank lid might take away the excess fuel from the lid.

Me - student Money? Not much. Lloyd 1958 - VERY small. The girl in the picture is a midget. Old car - dead Needed another car. DKW 3/6 1959, bought it four years old in 1963. Bought this beauty. Built for the autobahns. It ran like a bomb with a max speed over 190 km/h. Not going quite that fast but a group of deer passed the road, just after sunrise. THIS CAR ONLY HAD BRAKES ON THREE WHEELS. We didn’t run off the road, didn’t crash, but made some really wild maneuvres and missed the deer. The right rear hydraulic brake cylinder pipe had been clamped shut. (No car inspection in Sweden in those days. Buyer beware.) Later that day I added a 50 cent piece of copper pipe and two pipe clamps. Drove the car for the rest of the summer. My next car was a Goliath, 1958 model year. 2 stroke, lubricating oil injected and fuel injected 2 cyl engine. Also built for the autobahns. It could “only” do 180 km/h but had brakes on all four wheels. The engine always shook in its mountings. One of the two fuel injection pipes would often leak. Then I clamped it with a pair of pliers and ran on one (1) cylinder for the rest of that day. It didn’t go as fast and vibrated something “bad” then. No problem… The fuel injection pump had an overpressure release valve and I added an empty can to collect the fuel overflow. The hot exhaust pipe … ? (Engineering students can do these things…!)
