In a rather unfortunate turn of events, the USD 2.3 million Lotus Evija X, a one-off track version of the already fast Lotus Evija BEV, crashed on its dynamic debut at the ongoing Goodwood Festival of Speed. Though it is unknown if it was due to driver or technical error, the Evija X veered off into the haybales shortly after leaving the start line on the Goodwood Hillclimb course in a dramatic fashion. Watch the video below: The Lotus Evija X represents the pinnacle of Lotus’ BEV technology, bu

An SUV wearing Lotus badges might be a fever dream for most (if not all) enthusiasts, but it's happening, and it's coming in 2022. It's not going to be compact, as Lotus says the Type 132 (codename, actual name yet to be announced) will be an E-segment SUV. The Type 133 four-door coupe will follow in 2023, fitting in the same E-segment as populated by the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. With a heritage of lightweight racing cars, sources from Auto Express say the Norfolk-based car maker will no longer produce Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars by 2022. A final ICE production car is set to launch in 2021 and that will be the end of it. Famous for the small racing cars with excellent handling, Lotus has even injected some of its DNA in certain Proton cars. With the Geely Holding Group owning a 51% controlling stake, and Syed Mokhtar’s Etika Automotive owning 49%, Lotus now has

When Lotus—who makes one of the most focused driver’s cars—says that they will be moving on from internal combustion engine, it’s clear where the automotive industry is headed. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, CEO Phil Popham said that the new model is destined to be the company’s last combustion engine model. He adds that it will be priced between £55,000 (≈RM 296k) and £100,000 (≈RM 539k) in the UK. It is also said that the new model will have enough interior space to be compatible

UMW Toyota Motor ended November 2024 with ‘close to’ 8,400 units of Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold, said the company. It also added that year-to-date sales stood at ‘approximately’ 89,500 units. The company didn’t disclose its figures for October (JPJ registration figures are skewed by grey imports) but data compiled by RHB Investment puts it at 8,989 units, which also means that November sales are down by 6.6%. Year-to-date, sales are down 8.4%, from 97,705 units recorded in the same 11-month p

For all the news out there on China's seemingly never-ending growth of vehicle manufacturers, there's just about as many that crumble under pressure. Newest to that list is Ji Yue, a Geely-Baidu collaboration that's reportedly facing financial trouble. Highlighting the Chinese market's intense price wars and competition among car manufacturers, Reuters reports that Ji Yue is seeking to raise new funds and carry out operational adjustments to cope with this challenge. Per Sina Weibo, the battery-

The 12-day-long Thailand International Motor Expo – the largest annual car sales event in Southeast Asia – is the automotive equivalent of an Asian football cup. All major brands operating in the region see the event as a final all-or-nothing push to clear their inventory and hit annual sales targets before the year ends. Last year’s event was a rude awakening for many Japanese brands. BYD, Aion, MG, Deepal, and GWM leapfrogged Nissan, Isuzu, Mazda, and Mitsubishi. Honda struggled to stay ahead

The past week (or months) hasn’t been kind to Neta. In China, Neta is facing severe financial difficulties and has reportedly stopped production at its Yichun and Nanning plants. It received some reprieve when the Chinese state-owned Nanning Industrial Investment Group stepped in to provide financial support. Just as Neta found life support, it was torpedo-ed by ASEAN NCAP’s test results for the Neta V, which earned tragically comedic ‘Zero Star’ rating. As a Global NCAP-affiliated organization

Mercedes-AMG’s 45 series has always been about taking something everyday – be it a hatchback, sedan, or in this case, a crossover – and turning it into something extraordinary. The facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S is no different. It packs the same stonking performance and sophisticated dynamics we’ve come to expect from Affalterbach, but wrapped in a taller, more practical SUV body. It’s been a while since the Kia Sorento made headlines in Malaysia, but it’s time to give this underappreciated gem another look. Yes, the price is steep – at RM 255k for the range-topping 2.2D AWD variant, many would dismiss it outright. After all, the Mazda CX-8 tops out at RM 220k for the 2.5T AWD. Being a Kia, the Sorento faces the age-old hurdle of perception. For that price, buyers expect a badge with more “premium” cachet. Even I, as much as I admire the Sorento’s capabilities, can empath

If you are in the market for a small 7-seater vehicle, your options are limited. The Proton Exora is no more, and neither is the Honda BR-V. The all-conquering Perodua Alza has crowded out many alternatives. If you take out the Toyota Veloz, which is essentially a Perodua Alza with a different badge, the Mitsubishi Xpander is the segment’s only other option. Despite being locally assembled in Pekan, the Xpander has a starting price of RM 99,000, which is still RM 4,000 more than the Rawang-made
