Proton X50 sets record for highest monthly sales for any SUV in history – 3,345 units

Even as we enter into 2021, it seems that the hype of the Proton X50 has not yet died down with Proton announcing 3,345 units of the B-segment SUV sold in February. With that figure, the Proton X50 achieved the highest monthly sales for any SUV in Malaysian history.

Overall, Proton’s February sales were very much positive with 11,873 units sold in that month, nearly doubling that of January’s sales (5,964 units).

Since the hit crossover was launched in October 2020, Proton has delivered a total number of 8,141 units to-date. With over 30,000 bookings made, there are still a lot of backlogs unfulfilled.

Combined with the 1,475 units of the Proton X70 delivered in February, Proton has sold a total of 4,820 SUVs. This total figure is also the highest ever recorded for any brand in the country.

With the Perodua Ativa launched just last week, will the Proton X50’s record-breaking sales be eventually beaten? Though both the X50 and Ativa are not direct rivals, it can’t be helped that both SUVs attract similar demographics and are priced close to each other.
