While the 2022 MG ZS EV facelift stood in the limelight at the 2022 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), sitting alongside it and enjoying a quieter launch is the 2022 MG HS Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) facelift. Priced from THB 1,299,000 (~RM 164,000), the new MG HS PHEV features a new look to match its family.
Although MG Thailand calls this a ‘minor change’ there is nothing minor with the changes in looks for the MG HS. Gone is the chrome sunken grille and in its place is a more stylish black grille known as the Digital Burning Grille design.

The front end has also been extended forward to give the SUV the same signature shark-like look on the MG sedans. The headlights have also been updated to feature quad-LED projector headlights with welcome lights. At the rear, the taillights have been upgraded to full LEDs.
Like before the MG HS PHEV variant looks largely the same as the standard internal combustion engine (ICE) variant. The only differences can be spotted on the wheels and the ‘PHEV’ badge at the rear.

In the pre-facelift, the interior is only available in black for the ICE variant while the PHEV variant gets a blue and white interior instead. With the facelift, MG has also made the blue and white interior option available for the ICE variant.
The driver gets a new 12-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The touchscreen infotainment remains at 10-inches with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard.

While the new MG HS PHEV looks very different from the pre-facelift, powertrain details remain the same. The HS PHEV is still powered by a 1.5-litre engine paired to a 90 kW motor that produces a combined output of 284 PS and 480 Nm.
The powertrain is mated to a 10-speed transmission. The SUV does the century sprint from nought in 7.5 seconds. Like before, MG claims that the SUV's 16.6 kWh battery is capable of running purely on electricity for 67 km.

In case you’re wondering, the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) previously available in the pre-facelift remains in the new car. The system offers three levels and will allow for a sporty drive whenever drivers feel like it.
On the safety front, the MG HS PHEV is pretty complete with its ADAS features. The SUV comes with Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) just to name a few.

Prices for the MG HS PHEV starts at THB 1,299,000 (~RM 164,000) for the D variant and THB 1,379,000 (~RM 174,000) for the range-topping X. The lower variant D is more affordable than the pre-facelift’s THB 1,359,000 price tag.
Closer to home, sources close to the matter have mentioned that MG is looking into assigning a new distributor in Malaysia. While we know that the MG HS is one of the models earmarked for a local launch, we haven’t heard much on whether the MG HS PHEV will be arriving too.
