The first flying car in the world is now road legal in Europe, but its still grounded

Behold the PAL-V Liberty. The self-proclaimed world’s first flying car is now officially allowed on the roads of Europe after a series of stringent European road admission tests. Now that it is allowed an official license plate, the next step for the company will be to obtain a certification for flying.

The tests the Liberty were previously subjected to included drives on high-speed ovals, brake and emission tests, and even noise pollution tests.

In the coming months, the Liberty will undergo further tests on the endurance of the vehicle on public roads across Europe.

Only after the road tests are done will the company be allowed to carry out the 150 hours of flight testing to achieve its aviation certificate from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to make it flight legal.

Yes, the “folded aircraft” concept is that much closer to getting legalised, as it is, PAL-V is reporting that they have received overwhelming response in reservations despite a starting price of $399,000 (around RM 1.6 million) for the base Liberty Sport Edition.

It would be interesting to see how things pan out for the PAL-V Liberty since the company expects to achieve its final approvals by 2022 and start deliveries to customers the following year.

As of now, PAL-V reports that they have received overwhelming response from its customers and are working with those new to aviation (that makes 80 percent of reservation holders) to achieve a gyroplane flying license at the PAL-V FlyDrive Academy.
