The Mercedes-Benz EQA may not be built on a dedicated EV-only platform like the EVA platform Mercedes-Benz EQS, which also means that in the hierarchy of EVs, the EQA has less appeal than Hyundai’s Ioniq 5, at least that what EV fans say.
But you can’t argue against the three-pointed star and what the EQA lacks in technological superiority, it makes up for it with brand image and credibility in the bank’s priority customer’s parking.
For some, things like this matter more than how great the EV platform underneath the car is, and who can argue against the three-pointed star?
So it is surprising to learn that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has sold out all its year 2022’s allocation of the EQA.
MBM has not revealed any figures – itself an act of silent protest by the company against what it sees as fudging of sales data by its competitors. MBM says industry body MAA (Malaysia Automotive Association) should only use actual vehicle registration data by JPJ, not self-reported unverified data given by its members, and it will only share aggregated sales numbers on a quarterly basis.
Back to the EQA, although no figures were given, MBM says the allocation given to Malaysia is a reasonable sum for this segment.
“It has exceeded our expectations. To be quite open and honest, as I have mentioned in my speech earlier, we are completely sold out. What we are doing now is to try and get more allocation to satisfy more demand. We still have showroom cars, test drive cars on display so customers still have the ability to experience it, and that’s what gives us a little bit of added impetus when it comes the added derivatives of EQB, EQC, and EQS,” said President and CEO Sagree Sardien, at the sidelines of last week’s launch of the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

“With EQA, EQB, EQC, and EQS, we now have 4 segments that we target and we now give our customers a diverse range of options to transform and push the electric vehicle scenario here in Malaysia,” she added.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA sells for RM 286,888. The model is imported (CBU) from the Rastatt plant in Germany, which also makes the GLA.
The EQA 250 makes 190 PS / 370 Nm delivered via the front wheels, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.9 seconds and tops out at 160 km/h. The 66.5 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of around 402 – 429 km.
