It’s official – MG has entered the Malaysian market under SAIC Motor Malaysia Sdn Bhd, without a local partner. Details regarding the dealership network and specific models earmarked for Malaysia is yet to be disclosed, as the company says to “Stay tuned.”

Browsing through MG Malaysia's website, it appears that the MG4 Electric and MG ZS EV are hinted. Could EVs be spearheading the Malaysia market for MG? We’ll have to wait and find out.

The MG4 Electric is also known as the MG4 Mulan in China, which is a hatchback with a size roughly equivalent to the C-segment. It was spotted in Malaysia towards the end of last year, indicating a potential introduction to the market.

In Thailand, the MG4 Electric comes equipped with a rear-mounted 170 PS/250 Nm electric motor, powered by a 51 kWh battery that provides a NEDC range of 425 km. AC charging goes up to 4.4 kW and DC fast charging is up to 88 kW.

The MG ZS is a B-segment SUV that about the size of a Honda HR-V, which has become the best-selling model for the brand in markets outside of China.

The ZS EV specifically comes in two versions in Thailand – Standard and Long Range. The Standard version has a 51.1 kWh battery, giving it a range of up to 320 km (WLTP). The Long Range has a larger 72.6 kWh battery, allowing it to travel 440 km (WLTP) on a single charge.

The Standard variant has more power, with the front motor providing 177 PS/280 Nm, while the Long Range gets 156 PS/280 Nm.
