Great Wall Motor (GWM) has presented an Ora Good Cat electric vehicle to YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz at the office of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for an extended test drive.

It’s hoped that with all the relevant departments under MITI studying the electric vehicle’s daily usage pattern, development of EVs will be expedited. In his recent plans to push for the EV market, Tengku Zafrul said that the government aims to attract RM 20 billion in investments for the EV sector by 2025.

As an electrical and electronics manufacturing hub in ASEAN, Malaysia has a strong talent pipeline, supportive NAP policies together with existing EV ecosystems. This makes it an ideal market for the development of a sustainable EV industry.

GWM is committed to supporting the Malaysian government’s efforts to become a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions country.

“The EV industry must be viewed holistically, including factors such as software, technical, equipment, engineering and others, as it plays a crucial role in achieving the country's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target by 2050,” said Tengku Zafrul.

GWM ASEAN Region President, Elliot Zhang, also said that a strategic collaboration with the Malaysian government would help in accelerating the growth and adoption of sustainable transportation solutions in the region.

Part of that commitment comprises the aforementioned Ora Good Cat 500 Ultra to the Secretary General of MITI for a series of long-term test drives. The company’s aspiration to bring more new energy vehicles into the market will hopefully assist the Malaysian government in its efforts to achieve its net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target.
