Previously, we reported that an owner of a Tesla Model Y took it to Twitter saying that his steering wheel fell off while driving. As the story continues to develop, Tesla has decided to replace the entire car.

Just a quick recap of the story - the owner, named Prerak Patel, tweeted that he was driving the car on a highway when the steering wheel suddenly detached from the column.

Prerak had the vehicle towed to a Tesla service centre to have it checked and was billed USD 103.96 for the repair. However, the invoice was later updated to remove the repair cost after Prerak lodged a complaint.

He said that he had lost trust in Tesla and requested the car to be returned along with a full refund. Unfortunately, a Tesla representative said that the company does not have a return policy and suggested reaching out to the sales teams to explore options.

After some back and forth, Tesla sent a letter to Prerak saying that it has agreed to repurchase the vehicle as a gesture of goodwill, and that the vehicle contains no defect or any other basis for Tesla’s liability.

Prerak was provided with a loaner Tesla Model Y until the replacement arrives. “I am grateful to all of you for continued support and extending it to media coverage, and the Springfield/Princeton Tesla Devean(GM)’s team,” Prerak tweeted.
