The Johor Bahru police caught up with the driver of a silver Perodua Axia for driving against traffic and under the influence of alcohol after receiving video evidence from the public. It was later discovered that the driver is also a traffic police officer.
According to the Traffic Investigative unit (JSPT) of the Johor Bahru South (JBS) team, the 25-year-old traffic police officer was not on duty at the time and the Axia is his personal vehicle.
JSPT arrested the driver at a refuelling station in Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, near the location where the driver was seen driving against traffic and narrowly avoiding on-coming vehicles.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ayok Khan Mydin Pitchay told reporters that investigations will be conducted fairly and no compromises will be given even though the driver is part of the traffic police unit.
The driver is currently investigated under Section 42 (1) and Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987.
