A short three months after the all-new 2024 Subaru Forester made its global debut late last year, the rumour mill churns with reports of a battery-electric variant of the popular SUV is set to make its debut very soon.
Best Car Web's latest article states that the EV SUV could debut as soon as 2025, and is expected to feature improved interior space and all-wheel drive system. Most interestingly however, the report also states the purported Forester SUV "aims for a range of 700 km".
Speculation, of course, but not baseless. Subaru announced last year that they're planning to launch 4 BEV models by the end of 2026, all of them SUVs. Production of their EVs (made in-house at the Yajima plant) will begin sometime next year as well, with the goal to sell 200,000 EVs globally by the following year.
Technology will once again be shared with Toyota, most notably with the sourcing of the batteries. But before that however, Subaru will be opening a new plant in Kitamoto, Japan, to produce transmissions for its next-gen hybrid models that will also share Toyota's hybrid system technology.
At the current juncture though, this platform/technology sharing between Toyota and Subaru materialises in the GR86/BR-Z twins, as well as the Subaru Solterra EV being what is essentially a rebadged Toyota bZ4X.
Closer to home about the Forester, none of the ASEAN countries have received the model just yet. As such, the last-gen Forester is still on sale here with prices as below:
