honda crv depreciation Post Review

when u hit the depreciation sweet spot on a certified pre-owned Honda CRV https://t.co/uIRxHZrUrY

Any car people, here? What's the depreciation like on the Kia Sportage? Is it comparable to the Honda CRv? In terms of engine size, is there much difference between the 1.4 and 1.6? Is economy good,in city driving? Is suspension good and is the steering light? 🙏🤷‍♀️ #Thanks

200k depreciation value for 2011 Honda CRV?! tsk. #tradein

@Military_Dollar To be fair, Hondas are a beast w/ slow depreciation. A decade ago I had a Honda CRV lease. When I turned it in it was actually worth way more than the est payoff amount. So, I literally had positive equity when I traded it towards buying my current Acura lol Honda is a beast.

@PremedSassy Really late to this but I recently got a new Honda CRV. The low APR for a new one is honestly why we chose it. I was in between a RAV4 or CRV. The depreciation is great for these cars and parts are cheap to replace.

@AutoExpress Save a fortune in depreciation and buy a used British built Honda CRV.

@Road_2_Ft_Worth I hear you! My 2014 Honda CRV is still going strong. Routine maintenance, having some scratches buffed out, and, of course, depreciation, are the big hits. I'm going to keep on driving it. Mechanic told me he just bought a 2014 for his mom and wondered if I'd sell mine. Nope.

@teslafsdbeta To be honest any car in current market selling crazy. My brother bought Honda CRV in 2019 for 29K & he sold for 26K last week. Its due to shortage of cars. 3 year usage 26K miles $1K depreciation each year

honda crv depreciation Q&A Review

Why cars are so expensive in india as compared to US or other nations?

I worked in UAE for 4yrs. I use to own Ford Fusion 2.0L 240HP EcoBoost as below pictures. It costed me 1,15,000 AED (Rs.23,34,000) on-road includes, 1yr insurance, 1yr registration, 5yrs warranty, 3yrs service. Same car in India shall cost Rs. 23,34,000 + 28% GST + 20% Cess + 17% Registration (Hyd >4m vehicles) + 5% insurance = Rs.43 Lacs atleast Ex-Showroom price in India includes below taxes, which makes vehicles very expensive. Cars <4-Mtrs petrol <1.2 ltr= 28%GST+1% Cess=29% Cars <4-Mtrs diesel <1.5 ltr = 28%GST+3%Cess=31% Cars <4-Mtrs (petrol>1.2 liter/diesel>1.5L)= 28%GST+15% Cess= 43% Cars >4-Metres <1.5 ltr = 28%GST+15% Cess= 43% Cars > 4 mtrs > 1.5 ltr = 28% GST +20% Cess = 48% SUVs > 4mtrs = 28% GST+22% Cess = 50% Hybrid Vehicles= 28% GST+15% Cess= 43% Electric Vehicles = 5% GST ‐-------------------------------------------------------- UAE/India on-road prices:- Honda Civic VX AMT = Rs.14 Lacs/ Rs.23 Lacs Honda city CVT =Rs.10.5 lacs/Rs.14.5 lacs Honda CRV 2WD = Rs.18 Lacs/Rs.33.5 lacs Toyota Fortuner 2.7AMT= Rs.20Lacs/Rs.39 Lacs Honda Accord AMT= Rs.21Lacs/Rs.51 lacs Toyota Camry AMT = Rs.18Lacs/ Rs.45Lacs Toyota Prius Hybrid= Rs.17 Lacs/ Rs.54Lacs Toyota Yaris VX CVT= Rs.11.7 lacs/ 16.5 Lacs. Hyundai Tucson AMT = Rs.18Lacs / Rs.26 lacs Hyundai Elantra AMT = Rs.14 Lacs/ Rs.23.4Lacs ‐----'----------------------------------------- UAE attracts 5% GST. Annual registration+insurance =2% of car value after depreciation. Car loan interest-rate= 5% max. Auto companies in India are tired of requesting tax reduction in the Auto-sector, but somehow Indian govt is not consumer-friendly in case of auto taxes. Over to that our taxes per liter of petrol/diesel is around 85% to 96% on OMC price to dealer. Toyota leading in Middle- Eastern countries. Starting models in UAE are Toyota Camry (All taxi's), Chevrolet Cruze, Mazda 3, Toyota Yaris, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima, Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Honda Civic. ‐---------------- Conclusion: Personally, I'm against the uneven concentration of taxes in the Indian Auto sector. Tax is heavily concentrated at vehicle sales & petrol/diesel prices. It should be distributed evenly across the Auto-industry. Like 18% GST shall be max. on any vehicle. 28% is too high irrespective of the car model. As per govt., approx. loss by reducing GST to 18% is around 40,000 cr. annually. 2019–20 cars+commercial vehicle sales were 4million, which means govt. losing Rs.1 lac tax/car, but this will improve consumer saving, spending & growth-rate in other sectors. It is equivalent to pumping Rs.40,000cr/annum in other sectors. Cess shall be completely removed on vehicles. Logically “Environmental-Cess” shall be applied to fuel usage, not on devices that use them. Cess shall be paid for petrol/diesel purchases but not for vehicle purchases. Bring petrol/diesel to 28%GST and apply environmental 10% cess. Still, the price will be less than Rs.60/ltr at $65per barrel. Toll-charges can be increased by 10–15paisa for passenger vehicles, which is currently at around or less than Rs.1.1/km Vehicle registration shall be locked to 12% max. Gst. New policies for ‘Ethanol-100′ Flex-fuel vehicles can be introduced, by allowing ethanol import (currently restricted). This will create new jobs, business, more tax, more forex for govt. New policies for 100% CNG/Hybrid CNG vehicles can be introduced. India need more “underpass or overpass interchanges” like below pics at various “traffic signal junctions” in cities to ease vehicle congestion. Majority of ‘Traffic signals’ within cities shall be replaced with interchanges.

Is it better to buy a second hand 2008 Honda CRV or a brand new top model Hyundai Creta?

Hyundai Creta should be the absolute choice. The used CRV which you will get Will be a discontinued model Have high Maintenance costs Comes only in Petrol Will depreciate even further and you wont be able to sell it easily Will offer lesser features compared to Creta

What new or used car is unlikely to depreciate over the next 5 years of ownership?

As someone who continually looks at used car and new car prices, I will give you a few examples. In mountain states (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, etc), Subaru wagons with AWD keep their value at record paces. I challenge you to find a DECENT used vehicle less than 5 years old and more than $3000 less than original MSRP for these models. The cars are inexpensive to start with, offer good fuel economy, have great traction in adverse weather, and can haul a lot of people and cargo. Jeep Wranglers are another model that don’t seem to depreciate much. I attribute this to the fact that it really hasn’t had a re-design in my lifetime (maybe more than my lifetime?). It is also a 4x4, offers many configurations, and is easily upgraded. Toyota 4Runners and Tacomas have historically been another model like the Subarus that hold their values very well, but can drop significantly when a re-designed model makes the previous look out of date. In addition, the Highlander is another Toyota model that follows the same recipe, save for the high end “Limited” and some hybrid versions. Due to some options, a new “Limited” or hybrid will most likely be more expensive because of high prices of electronics and add-ons that won’t hold value when re-sold. When it comes to trucks, Ford F-150 has the same distinction as the Tacoma. In some markets, 4WD versions with low miles and less than a few years old will go close to the MSRP for a new one. The GM trucks don’t seem to hold their value as well, but the new diesel Chevrolet Colorado may change that if gas prices rise in the next few months. UPDATE: Thanks for all the upvotes! Since this post is almost 2 years old, I have to add some options to the list from my personal experience. While all of the vehicles mentioned above still seem to hold, I can add similar compact SUV’s with AWD to this list. Especailly Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Edge. Personally, I bought a used 2015 Mazda CX-5 GrandTouring AWD that was certified used at 32K miles in April 2018. In June 2019 at 55K miles it was lost in a flood and my insurance valued it at MORE than I paid for it 14 months prior. Looking at the market they were still going for the same price as I paid for it over a year prior! So I went out and bought another CX-5 of course! Definitely surprised me, even though I knew some models don’t depreciate as much as others.

Is a used Honda CRV a good buy?

First remember that it is a petrol and that with a 2.4 litre engine and 4 wheel drive and maybe as an automatic,?it will like a bit of a drink. If your usage is for long journeys or highway based, it is. It so much of an issue. The 2 litre is better in that area but you miss out on some of the goodies. On the other hand, it will be reliable and much more comfortable than the Fortuner. It is a soft roarer. With proper maintence, it will go on and on. It may lack the sophistication of a Q3 but there is very little to go wrong and one can upgrade the stereo etc with ease. However, being a low volume car in India. Parts except for service items will be expensive and take time to come. There are other sources though. Being petrol, they suffer depreciating n and do make a good buy!

What car would you buy if you won the Lottery?

One of each, over time. <grin> Some to keep forever, others to enjoy then trade. Probably 3 daily drivers: Sport Sedan: ,I’ve driven BMW 5-Series for over 30 years. Still like ’em and like that class of vehicle. So I’d probably have a series of sport sedans, starting with a 3-year old Tesla S. I hate new car depreciation. Big Trucking Truck: ,<music> ,I like big trucks, and I cannot lie,. </kill music> Have had half a dozen Chevy and Ford vans, no Mopar. On my 2nd 4WD Suburban, would probably get a third, either a post 2015 or a 200–2006, as I don’t like the 2007–2014 body. Auto-Hard-Top convertible,. Any German brand, or an auto-hard-top Miata. Money will attract friends, so I can imagine laying in a collection of late model (2012-2015 or so), family sedans as loaners tilting towards 4WD Crossovers: Subaru Outback Hyundai Santa Fe Honda CRV / Pilot (or Accord w/5-star safety rating but no 4WD) Toyota Highlander/Lexus RX So much for the daily drivers, and loaners, now for the collection. In no particular order Boat-tail Buick Rivieria. 1920s-1940s Buick Limo. 1959 Caddy 1970 Eldorado Convertible 1969 Oldsmobile 442 convertible in white with gold trim. Mercedes 600 limo 427 Cobra Best I stop now.

How has your used car served you?

Latest one? Mostly by using the original ‘new car owner’ & a couple of dealer’s histories, that paid the twenty per cent depreciation over the last two model years for me. That ‘new car smell’ just wasn’t worth the extra bucks. 2016 Honda CRV AWD. Almost indistinguishable from new, it is. Not sure the past owners are happy, but I sure am!

Why do people buy cars with manual transmissions? Why not just use automatic transmissions for all cars?

Thanks for the A2A. My mother recently gave me an option to choose between an automatic hatchback and a manual one. Much to her surprise, I chose the latter. The reasons being the following: 1) Traffic conditions:, I believe automatics are best suited in heavy traffic conditions when you can literally snooze off and let the machine take over the man. I have driven Honda CRV automatic in guzzle and buzzle of Gurgaon, a heavily populated Indian city, and I can easily claim that it was an effortless drive. However, not suited in all conditions. I enjoy driving and it gives me the perfect stress buster akin experience but what actually bursts the stress is the alertness. When using manual gears, you have to be (you better be) alert all the while. As a woman, I know I'm not blessed with the precision that a man is and hence I'm extra cautious when parallel parking and the likes. Manual shift of gears allows you to take your calls, be alert in non-traffic and traffic conditions alike. 2)Pricing: A manual SUV in India costs around 10-15 lacs (1-1.5 mn INR) whereas an automated twin of the same would give a spike of 1 million INR straight with same power engine and accessories. There has been a recent shift towards a lesser range like the Nissan Terrano (my dream SUV :) ), Renault Duster and Mahindra Xylo ranging from 13-16 lacs (1.3-1.6 mn) but the glaring gap still remains. The picture below is from the Masai Mara Game Reserve where we, a group of three friends, rented a Toyota 4x4 and had a whale of an experience driving in turns on the Kenyan roads. Not just for buying, even while renting a self-driven car, manuals cost less than automatic. Manual drives are strongly recommended over automatic ones in difficult terrain like this one. Again I drove a Land Cruiser in Jim Corbett last weekend, see the pic below and I must tell every mile driven was a new experience in it's own self. It was the first time I drove an LC (It was a near similar experience to driving a JC ). Manual gears, well in tandem engine, great pick-up and equally good race. Manual cars cost you lesser also because of a better mileage on longer routes. Their maintenance cost is lesser too. So concluding thoughts would be: if you are severely averse to driving in traffic and do not enjoy it at all then yes automatic shift is the one match made in heaven for you but if you are price conscious and see driving as a fun activity irrespective of the buzz on the roads, do not pinch your pockets harder. Remember, a car is a depreciating asset- the money put is not giving returns anyway.

Is it true that wealthy people buy used cars rather than buy new ones or lease them?

ANY sensible person will buy a second hand car with cash. Cars are the second most expensive purchase most people make in their lives and a new one will cost you a fortune in depreciation. A second hand one will too but a lot less than a new one. You can also drive a much better model from a more upmarket manufacturer. I'd rather be driving a second hand Honda CRV than a new Kia.

How can we avoid negative equity in our car (i.e., Owing more on your car than it is worth when you trade it in on a new one)?

Buy a car that holds it value better. Reliable cars tend to hold their value a lot better than unreliable cars do. Keep your car longer. The more payments that you make and the car depreciates at a slower rate as it ages, unless it is a very unreliable car. If you bought a reliable car, you could keep the car for years after the entire loan was paid off in full. Toyota is the most reliable brand of car. But I believe that the 2012 and 2013 Toyota and Honda cars are even more reliable than the newer ones. The CVT transmission is one reason why to buy the older Toyota car with the reliable 4 speed automatic transmission. Internet search “utube Why not to buy a new Toyota”. Buy a used Honda car with a manual transmission. The newer Honda cars are having oil dilution with gasoline problems. Honda Civic, Honda Accord and Honda CRV, years 2015 to 2018. Class action lawsuit against Honda.

Which is the best and most reliable midsize or small SUV money can buy?

This is subjective as there are as many car types as there are personalities. Toyota is the undisputed champion of reliability, but if reliability is your only goal this lengthens the development cycle. So innovation and new design suffers. The Honda CRV, RAV4 are excellent choices. 4Runners are great for traditional off road truckiness, he-man design and slow depreciation. They have a very hardcore following of fans. My personal non luxury brand favorite is the Mazda CX-5, a 10 best Car and Driver for several years running. Reliability and quality are extremely high, but these cars are much more fun to drive with a more sporting suspension setup than the others. Mazda’s Achilles heel used to be interior noise, so Mazda increased the thickness of windshield and insulation for 2017–18 and is now as quiet as a Bentley. while they won't keep the value your 4Runner will, they are so fun to drive with luxury touches rivaling luxury makes if you select Grand Touring trim. Kodo design ethos is less polarizing than the new Lexus Toyota “transormer” design language…. again this is very subjective. However, with only 1% of the US Market, Mazda is a boutique firm that makes beautiful and unique cars with a different ethos and focus, the driver. More people should by these underrated vehicles in my humble opinion.
