An economist has called for the government to consider ending Malaysia's protectionist measures for the automotive industry by lifting import and excise duties on imported completely built up (CBU) cars. Barjoyai Bardai, a lecturer from the Universiti Al-Madinah, told Free Malaysia Today that the protectionist measures will ultimately have to come to an end one day. The government should take this opportunity during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to make a trial run. Under the presen

It is no surprise that I am a strong believer of Android Auto – it encompasses everything you could possibly ask for in an infotainment system, including voice command, navigation, and music streaming. There's no need to fawn over the Proton X70's voice command, which we have to add, doesn't come with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. With Android Auto, you use voice control to read/reply WhatsApp messages and enter a destination to Google Maps or Waze, as well as selecting your playlist on Spotify

As recent as 2017, Malaysia was the leading country in the ASEAN region for electrified vehicles. We were the first in the region to assemble plug-in hybrid vehicles and for several years, Malaysia was among BMW’s top-five largest markets in the world for plug-in hybrid models, behind USA, UK, Japan, and China. Thanks to generous tax rebates for locally-assembled energy efficient vehicles (EEVs), Malaysia was, at one time adopting plug-in hybrid vehicles faster than Germany, despite Germany’s ne

A total of 529,514 new motor vehicles were sold in 2020, down 12.4 percent from 2019. Malaysian consumers have a long-standing (and weird) obsession with the “made in” stickers on their vehicles. Seemingly thinking that fully imported (CBU) models are of higher quality than locally assembled (CKD) products. This is an unjust misconception and undermines the expertise of our local talents who are equally qualified to assemble cars that meet the manufacturers stringent global manufacturing standards. What Are CBU and CKD? CBU (Completely Built-Up) refers to cars that are assembled
